Student told me that she didn't know how to log into her account. The account she's had for 5 years. The account she's used to log on every time she's gotten on the computer at school since K.

The OP is speculating that the teacher is out because of the complaint, while it may be something totally unrelated. And frankly, the reason is no one's business but the absent teacher.
A difference...

When it's time for "you do", they give me blank stares. I'm used to 1 or...

I don't refer kids for any other reason. Originally it was because our principal wouldn't do anything. But I realized that by sending kids out, I was giving up my authority. So I deal with it...

One of my students (4th grade) is talking using the wrong pronouns "Me is done with me work."
I'm ignoring him, but it's like nails on a chalkboard.

Dumb is NOT cute.

"Do I have to divide by 3 to get to 6? "
The problem is 372 DIVIDED by 6. ...

Can I have my test back?

Student comes to my desk after a grammar test.
Student: Have you graded these yet?
Me: Yes.
S: Darn it. I wanted to put the right answer on number 2.
Me: ??? What do you mean?
S: I put the wrong...

NOT an excuse.

Trauma is not an excuse, and kids aren't just given carte blanche for behavior because of it.
Understanding trauma helps understand the issues these kids face, and strategies to help...

Need ideas for an exploration.

Our school does exploration days a few times a year where each teacher leads an activity. The students sign up for the activities they want, and it's pretty much an all day thing. Our next...

Connections. I'm going to try that.

I think maybe he's just the kind of kid who likes to verbalize every thought 0-whether it's relevant or not.
He's pretty average with the rest of my students - which means he's below average. ...

I can't even imagine.

I have a tough class in a tough school, in a tough neighborhood. Like it's the last ditch neighborhood before you end up homeless.
My students sometimes say negative things to each other, but I...

Such an odd child.

I have the oddest little boy in my class. He's super sweet, but just strange. First, he's from the village, and while English is his first language, he speaks in a unique pattern and cadence. It's...

I agree with Coopsgrammy

Accept yourself as you are. Choose the most important things, and get those organized.
I am not an organized person. I have tried different methods for organzation, but they failed because they...

There are some great posts.

About ODD here. You'll have to search to find them.
ODD is a tough one.
It's not about pushing buttons. It's about finding some control in a life that seems out of control.
My suggestions:

I grade what's finished

If they don't finish the work, their grade reflects it. I give plenty of time for work. If they don't finish, it's because they're talking or playing around. If they finish part, they get partial...
