very encouraged

I, too, am scheduled for a hysterectomy this summer. I'm so encouraged by everyone's positive experiences! Having spoken with a few coworkers who've gone through this, they've all had similar "wish...

Thanks for focusing on positives!

I made myself start the day = get out of pajamas.

—went for a walk by myself (just after sunrise, no one else was out)

—did dishes

—fed pets and have them their medicine.

—pulled weeds...

It's more work to be out

(There are many things I do love about my job, but.....)

I'm so jealous that my husband (not a teacher) can just text/email "not coming into work today" when he's in pain or sick, whereas I need...

Agreed!

I've learned that "get creative" and "use your professional judgement" actually translate as "we don't really know how to do this, either."

Funny how we're given scripted programs designed to...

Just curious....where do you teach that the class max is 18?

The largest class I’ve had in 3rd was 31, and I’ve had 29 in first grade.

I only planned to watch the first episode, just to get a feel for the show. I wound up watching the entire season yesterday!

Exactly, Emily26!

If principals did not give in to these parents when the students are in elementary school, parents wouldn’t be accustomed to huffing and puffing until they get their way. (I...

Agreed!

I, too, cannot stand the melon head clip art. Sometimes it's the deciding factor on a TPT (non)purchase--especially when they try to make it look like a famous person.

I'm so glad that you picked up Charlie! I'm sure the pet sitter was more than grateful to you. So glad that he's back where he belongs!

I've been inspired!

All of those dancers looked like they were having so much fun. I've been inspired! A couple of my co-workers and I are going to start taking lessons next week!! :)

Shameful

It's such a shame that those parents don't speak to their SON in the same tone of voice and say, "We don't drop six figures on your high school education for you to leave two pages blank on an exam!"

Parents texting in car drop-off line

I cannot believe the nerve of a few parents!

We have no bus service at my school. Long story short = LOTS of traffic during morning drop-off and after-school pick-up times.

We make a big...

Zia

I like how you think! So true -- I've finally hit the point in my career when I believe that time off is for enjoyment (and not just to prep for the upcoming school session).

Gift ideas for a one-year-old?

I’m attending the birthday party for a co-worker’s one-year-old boy soon. Should the gift be practical (clothes), fun (toy), or sentimental?

Help!! Thanks!

Mom "moved" while son was at school

While working at a Title 1 school several years ago, I got a new student midyear. The boy was very quiet, and he'd NEVER let go of his backpack (third grader). He even took it out to recess with...

Does a middle ground exist?

Quick background on me: I've taught for 20 years. The first nine years were in Title 1 schools, and the other eleven years have been in a high socioeconomic area.

In the Title 1 schools I felt...

Update

I met with the principal today. (By the way, yes, we're already back in session. We always start mid-July.)

Long story short: it was nothing. Parents claimed that their child wasn't looking...

Talk to ME first--not my principal.

Just got an email from my principal asking me to meet with him tomorrow morning about a parent/student concern. No specifics. Didn't tell me which student nor what the issue is.

It may end up...

Keep some of their written projects

My mom kept a few of my writing projects from elementary school, and I'm so glad she did!

I was able to show my third graders samples of my own work as a 3rd/4th grader--and they could see how...

The One and Only Ivan

It took us a LONG time to get through this one, but it was well worth it!

Oops, I just re-read the original post. I didn't see that this was for picture books.

Unsure

Not sure how this whole incident will pan out.

While I do believe he (and mom) deserve jail time, I was also thinking how disgusting it will be if he goes to jail for violating parole--when the...
