Has anyone done play-based math and reading centers?

I'm going into my second year of teaching (kindergarten like last year) and I'm looking to do something a little difference with my centers. Last year I did a somewhat modified Daily 5 for literature...

For me and my kids

they are absolutely pointless. Kindergarteners don't know how to read words, especially the ones on the wall since they're the irregular ones. So how they heck are they going to know which word on...

Pro/Con list

would probably be a good idea. Honestly, I find that a pro/con list tricks my brain into choosing because I try to argue one school over the other. It's the same situations the "flip a coin and if...

I love my school

but admin can be so inconsistent with discipline. The worst is when they make a huge deal about following the guidelines in the staff handbook and make a big deal of 'following the progressive...

I think it's a little of both

Scores are important and can be a good way to judge student achievement. For example, if one class has a pass rate of 25% and last year that group of kids had a pass rate of 75% clearly something is...

Crazy parents

...you have 1.5 days left of the school year. Why do you need to sir the pot with only 1.5 days remaining?

A student of mine (and possibly others? mom is unclear) has apparently been bothering...

Thanks for all the advice!

Unfortunately I can't lend any furniture to another teacher. They're really strict about it...I can't even move my extra chairs out of the room. I do like the idea of raising up a table and making...

Anyone else with a small classroom?

I love my school...but I hate my classroom. Its ridiculously small (30' by 20'), I have 25 kids, and I'm not allowed to get rid of any furniture the school provided. They gave us a lot, which I'm...

Same!

Now comes the rush to get everything done in these next few days. I've been trying to have my kindergarteners help where they can but they usually just make more work for me LOL

I have two kids that really do just need love and act out to get it. Huge hearts, huge behavior problems, and one with an unstable home life. I also have one kid who is just awful. Rude to every...

To be honest, that teachers scores seem really low. I also teach kindergarten and admin assesses them using Dibels. It's expected that we have very little to no reds and yellows. Instead we should...

Growth

We have a data analyst come in and talk to us about data. She told us that RIT scores don't matter, nor do their 'goals' because there are so many factors that can influence them and they're...

Rooms size?

Are the rooms the same? The same size, same amenities, same layout? If they are I would agree and politely ask for help moving things. That way you look like a team player. Also, I really think that...

Update

Thank you for all the advice!

In the end I did decide to bring it up. I said that I was surprised with the 2 under flexibility since I had received all 3s in my observations and nothing was...

Got my end of the year evaluation back...

I received my formal professional evaluation back for the year. My school uses Charlotte Danielson on a 1-4 scale. 1 is unproficient, 2 is basic, 3 is proficient, and 4 is distinguished.

Well on...

I've been getting creatively evil with my consequences. I have one boy who, every time someone else is actually hurt, he's make up an injury for attention and whine for the nurse. I started sending...

I made a judgement error and am worried about admin reactions

In winter we were going over test scores and talking about who was going to continue in RTI and who needed to be added or removed. (I teach kindergarten). I had one girl who was low, but parents were...

Odd rules

If you have a rule, you should be able to explain why. Pet peeves are not a valid reason for rules to exist.

For example, my current word-wall is on my wall an impossible tore each by me....
