Solar Eclipse - What is your district policy?

Greetings! I'm a high school teacher from California, and we are gearing up for Monday's eclipse. Our high school and some of our elementary schools have approved solar eclipse viewers and we are...

I've purchased a new car...

and put "substitute teacher" as my job. I was employed by the school district for 8 years and had income. It was my employment for that period of time.

Go a little further south...

There are districts like Manteca, Ripon, Modesto - they always have sub jobs. Check edjoin for San Joaquin and Stanislaus county and see what the districts require.

A little update...

Recurrent billing has been canceled via PayPal and Jobulator account will be closed very soon.

Jobulator actually offered to let me transfer what's left of my service (which is now basically 11...

I did contact paypal as well. Their response was since I made the agreement with the other party for recurring billing, there was nothing they could do. I've definitely learned my lesson.

Furious with Jobulator/Frontline

I'll start off by saying this is my fault - I should have paid more attention a year ago...

I renewed my Jobulator a year ago, but somehow missed that I ended up signing up for recurrent billing...

I was actually in this position this year...

I started on the third day of school in August and ended up in the classroom all year. It's a long story, but it was for a teacher who was dealing with health issues. The teacher's return date kept...

Isn't there a check-out procedure for subs?

I have always had to check out at the end of the day. Wouldn't someone have questioned why the sub left early?

In California...

Subs actually don't have to be credentialed teachers in California. They must have a Bachelor's Degree, pass the CBEST, and then obtain an emergency credential (pay a fee).

Wow... I feel really bad for you...

I've been really fortunate to have wonderful secretaries at the school in which I normally sub. They're really top-notch, helpful, and make me feel valued. I guess it's a rarity! There have been...

It all depends on the district...

There are apparently a lot of settings that districts using Aesop can utilize, so it will vary. I also can't see feedback left for me.

I think it's not a secrecy issue via Aesop. The secrecy...

I am a credentialed teacher

To answer your questions...

I became credentialed because my career of choice was to become an educator.

I quit teaching full-time when my older child was born. When my younger child was old...

I would tear up, too.

I don't think people realize how much of ourselves we pour into our work. Subs are often thought of as a "warm body", but in actuality, many of us are very serious about what we do. I'm very sorry...

We have nothing like that at all

In fact, my district has a difficult time actually taking people off the sub list. There have been people who have been teaching full-time for a year or two and the district hasn't taken them off -...

Yes... you who have responded about no phones are right... I wasn't thinking about the repercussions of doing that. I love the fact some districts can place photos on seating charts.

Perhaps take a picture with smart phone and e-mail it to the teacher?

The Science teacher in me says it's gone from iron to silver... which makes Aesop even more valuable.

In other words, I have NO idea! LOL

Hats off to you...

It sounds like you did what you were supposed to do, and it's a shame the permanent teacher didn't leave more details on what to do in case something like this was to happen.

Details like that can...

I haven't taken any days off for illnesses...

this year. I did have to take one day off because my mom had fallen and I needed to keep an eye on her.

I won't sub when I'm sick - I stay home to get myself well and not share whatever it is with...
