In order to teach middle school you have to be a little crazy, or strange, or both. Teaching this level definitely keeps you young at heart. I am in the middle of writing lyrics to air out a long...

Toss the lesson

Figuratively speaking, the lesson plan will go on the back burner for the first 3 years or so. Class management, especially at that age, is the number one focus/hurdle/skill what have you....

And how about all the mothers (and some fathers) who teach kids all day then go home and raise their own kids all night, while the other parent may not lift a finger around the house to help. Those...

Support is great

Wow, this was very therapeutic to know others are right there. We need to take a day or more away from it all, be it the mall alone, the coffee shop, a long drive, something just to decompress. I am...

Kidded out: Kids at work, Kids at home

How do you handle dealing with other people's kids all day long, barely breathe, then deal with your own kids foolishness! I am exhausted and feel like I do not want to see anyone under the age of 21...

All teaching levels

While this sounds like a possible elementary rant, the sad thing is this fits many of the middle school parents I see!

Write till your hands fall off

We also have to incorporate writing in middle school Civics. I choose to do a beginning-of-class (first five minutes) question that students must respond to in a paragraph with specific transition...
