I like your idea

of a take home math log. There are so many websites electronic math games/activities for kids--free too. Most of my kiddos have an IPAD (I don't!) or they could use their mom's Iphone to practice. ...

I've seen it both ways:

When I taught in Virginia, there was a mandate one year that each prince and assistant prince had to sub one day each semester. That only lasted a year b/c admin complained about it so loudly!

I...

Good Advice from The Trunch

Did you have a manifest determination hearing after the letter with the threat? What admin response was there after the letter?

She said:
"However, we are not required to do anything except teach. While I attend some events, I have a family, meetings and other job expectations. I'm not a volunteer. I'm sorry that you're...

Ours are more on a consult basis

They support the teacher by giving advice and suggestions. They do not prep materials or spend any time with students (unless it's to observe the student).

Most are willing to come up with lots...

No, it's not the law.

By law you have to have a meeting to discuss the request for testing. At that point, you can request evaluation, decide eligibility base on existing data, OR decide not to test. If there is not...

I'm glad this worked out!

I'm especially glad you got kudos from your admin. It's always so difficult to engage in a positive way when you have to tackle a subject like cheating. Give yourself a pat on the back -- you...

Money is a problem as well.

Since most adults use debit cards now, and little actual cash is used, students are losing this skill as well. I have 3rd graders who don't know the coin value of dimes or quarters.

Lunar Eclipse

If a full moon drives us bonkers, we had ALL better take cover on October 8th, because there is supposed to be a lunar eclipse at 6:25 a.m. At least that's what the 3rd grade scholastic mag said. ...

I agree with being honest.

I would tell her what he can and cannot do, and what the 2nd grade standards are. Then, I would tell her what you are doing along the lines of interventions. I would do some digging deeper and...

We often are given no guidance on new things, so we figure things out and keep moving. After a few months, the same folks we asked for guidance turn around and tell us what we did was wrong. It is...

I have nightmares from Powerschool!

We use standards based grading (1-4) and used to be able to use 3* on the report cards to show the students were working above the standard, but not yet at a level 4. Parents got used to that and...

You do know, of course, that it absolutely has to be someone else's fault... . It's sad that this kid is the way he is because of his parents. BUT, I've been around long enough to just shake my head...

I thought the same as you--I wouldn't recommend anyone go into teaching. I talked my son out of it and he would have been a fabulous science teacher. However, I now say I would still go into...

I'm with you!

If a parent wants their child moved from my room...buh-bye! That parent will probably never be satisfied with you or your room, and will be a PIA all year.

I second that!

I'd love to just say "I am really disappointed that Suzy Snowflake is in my class. I really wish she was in Mrs. Smith's class instead." Wouldn't their jaws just drop to the floor?

I so agree with Beachygirl!

I had a prince who wanted us to "Keep each other accountable" and I did not agree with that at all. We are colleagues. They are admin. It's their job to do the accountability part.
