End of day

getting used to it

Rough start...........

First graders are old enough to learn YOUR rules and procedures. I taught 2nd and we would practice constantly what it looked like to walk in the halls,line up.listen,etc.etc. You cannot do anything...

Time in our rooms...........

As a recently retired teacher I can very much identify with this issue. We really create this situation ourselves (I always did) We give too much of our summer,weekends and evenings working for free....

hot early days...

A colleague of mind got so disgusted with the heat and humidity she bought her own free standing air conditioner. She said it was VERY expensive but worth every penny.

Please gauge your classroom occupants (and their parents) before using anything remotely chemical/artificial. The dryer sheets sound like a safe alternative. I work in a very "green and organic"...

How long have you stayed "interested"?

Sounds like maybe its just this particular group and not because they are 5th graders. In my disrict the belief is that noone can declare themselves a "2nd Grade teacher" or a "6th grade teacher"....

3 day absence

What are your thoughts on using "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" as a Second Grade Read Aloud?? Its a DCF book and very popular but what do you think about it for 7-8 year olds?

My class,too.

They now have an ASSIGNED place in line. No need to cut because I have the lineup posted. We also come back to the room at the first sign of talking,touching or fooling around. One day we tried 5...
