Not a theme just a color combo

I am doing blue, white, green and turquoise polka dots.

Those teachers doing owls, there was a classroom personalized floor cling from OT that said your name and went onto the floor or wall (I...

I previously posted about WBT

and my school only used the clip chart behavior program last year (started in November). I am on the committee for character ed. and we always focus on behavior. The data collected from my K-4 Title...

My district had Mimios before

we got Promethean boards. They are far better than having nothing, but the con is that if you bump it, it goes out of synch and needs to be recallobrated each and every time. This is a pain when you...

I agree with the PP

about CAFE and D5. Both are great reads and you can do both methods with your district's materials and approved curriculum.

Wbt

Whole Brain Teaching has really worked for me the past two years. This is the first year that I have used so much of the program and boy has it made a difference. I can honestly say that with only...

I also do dull/sharp cans

of pencils in the classroom. My students can't sharpen pencils or get out of their seats to get one. They gesture that they need one and I give them one, otherwise they would be at the can choosing...

Thought of a few more

How does data drive your instruction?

How do you differentiate your instruction?

What is your management system?

Here are a few I have heard from others...

What are your fears for this grade level?

What inspires you?

What are your strengths/weaknesses?

Curriculum aside, what is a lesson that you think all children should be taught?

Why are...

Do you

use lotion after you wash? I never used lotion, but now I realize that I need it. I always thought that lotion would make it worse, not the case.

I just started using Beauty Control Products....

Wow, this is awful!!!

Has the bully been through I&RS? What does the counselor say to help with her meltdowns? What advice has your P given you?

This just seems like a ticking time bomb. Question, is the bully treated...

I agree with

Reesespieces. I think two things have helped my class this year. Gestures for sight words or artsy props. For example, "was" is the fuzz of was. I have "was" written on a paper under a piece of fuzzy...

Not sure what

type of technology you are considering, but if you are doing a whole group lesson, you could view a story online and then after a few pages you could pause the book and ask "who and what"? This...

I have used this method the last two

years and it works great for me. I start with an independent math box page (these are review skills). We do Everyday Math. There are usually 4 problems on the page. I quickly go over the directions....

My friend has had a lot

of success using sign language for sight words with her special ed students. I try and use a gesture whenever possible, but some sight words are hard to think of gestures. That is why she started...

I do whole group

facts as an attention getter. Instead of doing the teacher clap or class/yes, I say, "4+4". My students respond with the whole fact and the sum. Since getting first graders attention, does not always...

So glad that

you found it and it seemed to work out for you today :) My advice is to stay consistent with it. If you see them slipping, have them pretend to talk and then give them a class/yes. Then do it again...

I am with

the PP who mentioned Daily 5. If not for this year, look into it for next year. It is amazing and an easy read. It is not an additional program as much as it is a structure for the program/s/ that...

We also do something similar

to PeaceRunner's method. We call it bd glasses. Students put them in front of their eyes (like glasses-using PeaceRunner's description of index finger to thumb on each hand). Then they pull them away...

the beanies are a great hook for the beginning of the year. While I wish all 26 of my firsties were on grade level or close, unfortunately that is not the case. Many of my kiddos come from homes...

That is so

funny. I have popsicle sticks with mini versions of the stategies too. I tell the kids to use them as tracking devices so they remember to work on their goal when they get stuck.

I should note

that my class does not have ipads so we don't need the app. We listen on laptop computers. If you have computers then you don't need A-Z. I have my Raz acct. linked to my school webpage.
