Yes, the biggest problem they had was with the bathroom thing, but they also were negative on the whole idea of Class Dojo. I just have a hard time with a bunch of people (including zero teachers...

Very interesting responses - thank you!

So no one officially gets the bonus points for the answer to what the response was like. The biggest to-do was something like ďHow dare they discipline a child for a basic human need! She will...

Opinions? Bashing Class Dojo

I saw a tweet today that called out the use of Class Dojo as contributing to a culture of discipline where kids are constantly being watched and how similar schools are to prisons:rolleyes:. I wish I...

The situation is a little complicated. Our union has retained a bid system that makes it easier in some ways, yet harder in others, to move positions. In theory the district canít force a teacher to...

Yes! This is exactly it! But for me itís one more year. If I knew that it would be over after this year for sure, the light at the end of the tunnel would allow me to make it through.

My HS job...

Our hours

7:20-2:55 so basically 7.5 hours per day. This includes a guaranteed 30 minute duty-free lunch and we each have 1-2 periods that are planning or duty and not teaching. Our students leave at 2:25 or...

Doesnít Seem Fair

As soon as I typed the subject it made me think of my students complaining about nothing being fair, but Iím going to go ahead and complain anyway. LOL

I teach in PA, and our students take PSSAs...

What type of class is this?

I do something similar to your second choice with my lower-level math class, because I give daily class work points to encourage students to work the whole period. In my honors classes, tests and...

Thank you all...

For the advice posted so far.

I probably should have mentioned that the schedule I was giving was just for example, and yes, I will definitely be flexible with how much time to spend.

I didnít...

No way!

If I were you, I would try privately tutoring some students instead. Many schools will have a list (with guidance?) of teachers who are open to tutoring and will give parents the information when...

Look out for yourself first

I know that it will make you feel really bad, but you have to do whatever is in your own best interest. I have been in a similar (but probably a little easier) situation two times, having accepted...

A better analogy

Tsy2013,
What you say is true, but these tradespeople are investing in themselves and sometimes building a business. We teachers invest in ourselves when we go to college, take extra PD classes,...

It all just depends on the district

I live in western PA, and some schools seem to have their hiring done by end of June while others don’t start until August. There are always a few jobs posted late in the summer as teachers shuffle...

Have to say...

That as a HS math teacher, it made me cringe to hear that you are struggling so much but want to teach MS math. In my state, they did away with being able to add MS with a Praxis and now you need to...

Great idea!

I think that sending a letter home is a great idea. You can let families know about any new procedures, upcoming events, how to get a hold of you, etc.

Sorry to be the only (and delayed) response....
