What type of class is this?

I do something similar to your second choice with my lower-level math class, because I give daily class work points to encourage students to work the whole period. In my honors classes, tests and...

Thank you all...

For the advice posted so far.

I probably should have mentioned that the schedule I was giving was just for example, and yes, I will definitely be flexible with how much time to spend.

I didnít...

No way!

If I were you, I would try privately tutoring some students instead. Many schools will have a list (with guidance?) of teachers who are open to tutoring and will give parents the information when...

Look out for yourself first

I know that it will make you feel really bad, but you have to do whatever is in your own best interest. I have been in a similar (but probably a little easier) situation two times, having accepted...

A better analogy

What you say is true, but these tradespeople are investing in themselves and sometimes building a business. We teachers invest in ourselves when we go to college, take extra PD classes,...

It all just depends on the district

I live in western PA, and some schools seem to have their hiring done by end of June while others don’t start until August. There are always a few jobs posted late in the summer as teachers shuffle...

Question for WGReading

Would you mind describing your schoolís parent engagement program? Just broad strokes would be great - I would love to hear what you are doing that is working so well. TIA!

Have to say...

That as a HS math teacher, it made me cringe to hear that you are struggling so much but want to teach MS math. In my state, they did away with being able to add MS with a Praxis and now you need to...

Great idea!

I think that sending a letter home is a great idea. You can let families know about any new procedures, upcoming events, how to get a hold of you, etc.

Sorry to be the only (and delayed) response....

Thanks for all of the replies!

I have worked at schools before where this whole idea of having digital learning days would be reasonable. My kids go to a school like that, because they all have laptops. Someone once told me that...

It really is not too much to ask. The communication this year is driving me nuts. I split my time (first year doing this) between a HS and MS. I have asked each building P multiple times to please...

I started my 2nd career as a teacher at 34, and I definitely have felt discriminated against because of my age. It took me 6.5 years to find a contracted position, though I am triple certified in...

I do suspect he was shaming those students

I can completely relate to this!!!

This is exactly what happens with me. I put so much work into it but then end up feeling like such a failure.

I think that the major factor is that there doesnít seem to be any consequence or...
