Keanu - Always and Forever

I think it was the thread about Always Be My Maybe where I found that many of use are big fans of Keanu Reeves.

I have been unable to find Snapple raspberry iced tea in the dollar store and gas stations.

I can still get it in a 6-pack at Wal Mart, but I only need it for a monthly treat. I don’t do soda or...

Uniform

I am like the pp's co-worker. I go long stretches where I wear black pants and a dressy, solid color t-shirt every day. So I kinda wear a uniform already.

I did buy some new gray pants this...

Update

I heard back from the vet and went in to pick up some pain meds for my cat.

While I was gone he did come out from under the bed and he fought me when I gave him the pain med in a syringe, which...

Cat's health worse

I posted before about my older cat having kidney disease.

He had been doing well with special food and intravenous fluids.

The last day or two he has been going outside the box and appears to...

Stories

Once my observer asked what subjects and grade levels I taught. Really?!? I was able to relax and not take them very seriously.

This happened several times over two observers in my last district:...

Retirement

I started teaching at 36 (second career).

At the very least I would like to hang on until 65 and I can get medicare. My district officers retirees health insurance, but it is almost $750 a month...

I don't have a big project planned this summer as I took a lot of classes for credit on our salary scale.

I am going to go pick up a free carpet remnant at a teacher event a local flooring store...

Greyhound Girl

And that Oscar she won was just something to do on hiatus from Mom. :)

I really liked the movie she won the Oscar for: I, Tonya.

She seems to have the knack for playing crazy mothers.

Podcasts?

Do you like podcasts?

If you like YA, I believe John Greene and his brother have a podcast.

There are several true-crime podcasts as well. Sh*t Town and Serial are supposed to be good.

My...

Mom

I like this show too.

Alison Janney stated on a podcast I listen to that she had a brother who was an addict before he passed away. She was always interested in the found families that grew up...

Community supplies

Like PP suggested, I would gauge your school community. I would also check to see if your administration will back you on this.

Also be careful if families move or kids are pulled in the middle of...

Dogs and rain

Growing up we had a neighbor who kept a hunting dog in an outside kennel in their backyard. Don't worry, it had a fancy heated/cooled dog house too.

I think it was a blue healer or a mix of healer...

Roomba

I bought this one from Amazon this spring. I paid less than $200 for it so the current "sale" price on Amazon ($225) is not a good deal.

Anyway, I also have two cats (one long haired) and it works...

Handmaids Tale

Yes

It was very eerie to me to see Aunt Lydia as a teacher. I know some teachers that go the distance to help (or their version of help) and get so burnt out or harshly judgemental.

I also was...

Did your mom have a cleaner?

I am just asking because it seems like some people who are judgy about clean houses had a cleaner or spouse or kid or who actually did the cleaning. :)

I have worked at schools like that too.

"Just teach to the standards" was the common refrain.

Even if a district provided curriculum to regular ed, often they left special ed out in the cold....

Memberships

I had not heard of this for teachers, but seems pretty common for bloggers and influencers to want to get you on a mailing list.

Except for some recipes or meal plans, I have yet to be asked to...

Chipmunky

That is good to know.

I'm not looking to move any time soon, but new flooring would be one of the few things I would want to do before I move in.

House

My next house will NOT have an open floor plan, if I buy. Can't be too picky about rentals in my area.

I rent right now and, with an open floor plan, it seems like all the kitchen smells get...

Depends on the kid

It really depends on the student if they respond better to pictures or drawn symbols.

Different placement

IME an alternative placement is a big leap for most parents to wrap their heads around.

Purple Crayons gave some great advice. I second everything she said.
