Ehhh

I felt that it wasnít the best to measure what my students knew. We used it for both math and reading. The math was better then reading. The lessons for reading were slow and ridiculous, but they did...

Y and x

I do a ďyour choice dayĒ for y. They can pick a partner for games or lessons instead of using their assigned buddy. Anything I can give them a choice about that day, I do. X is eXchange autographs. I...

I use her program

I don't treat it as adding, that comes in later lessons I believe. I use it to show 10. You move 8 beads to the left side which leaves 2 behind. The kids would draw the 8 beads they moved on the left...

Deanna Jump and Deedee Wills

I use their program Guiding Kinders math. It is common core aligned and uses a math workshop format where there is a whole group lesson, a partner game, and then practice after. I love it so much and...

I've noticed something else too

I was assessing today and I've learned that I have to teach my kindergarteners where we start reading a book! Usually every child can find where the story starts in the book. This year, many of my...

We do

We give 4s if the child exceeds the standard for kindergarten. For example the standard is to count to 100- if they stop at 100 it's a 3, if they count past 100 it's a 4. I don't end up giving many...

Penguins

I love teaching about my penguin unit. It's my favorite animal and the kids know that and love it as much as I do. I get such a kick out of teaching them vocabulary like blubber and regurgitate. They...

I second Deanna Jump

She's got great stuff.

It helps if you find a set of pages that are completed the same way. That way you could do a few together to model and then let them do more on their own. I have a few ELA...

I still have my play areas

This thread is making me sad that so many classrooms have had to remove their play areas. I still have a kitchen, blocks, Legos, and other play things for my Kinders. We use them at certain times...

Ok now I think I'm really lucky!

After reading the other comments, I'm so blessed to have my principal. To question coloring and cutting in a kindergarten class? How do these principals think the kids learn to do all that correctly,...

Tpt

I have the set from Deanna Jump for kindergarten. They are kid friendly and have cute pictures, but I still think they are a waste of valuable wall space.

In kindergarten too

I agree. I don't get the purpose of doing this especially in lower grades. Mine take up valuable wall space that I could really use for other things my kids need. I'm bad though. We focus on certain...
