How about these ideas?

I understand your frustration and think it's absurd - what a waste.

I love my kayak!

For one person, kayak is the way to go. I have the sit-on (not sit-in) kayak and it is fantastic for mostly still or gently moving water.

This is not the kayak you want for rapids though! :) ...

We enjoyed it.

It was very much something that happened in the dark - lots of suspense and things that made us jump!

some airlines have test seats

while it is humiliating to go to the airport (near the check in space) and test to see if you fit, it is better than boarding and finding out you can't fit.

we have a full and it is plenty of space. We are snugglers and end up right in the middle with plenty of room to spare.
