We've been told that we should be ready to set up office hours for after Spring Break. Each teacher can be different, but I think that will be awfully difficult for parents with multiple kids and...

You don't have control of their audio. They would have to mute on their own machines.

Not the same in every state

I'm in California, and the state tweaked the standards and adopted the strand model, not the subject specific model.

They are certainly not like any previous science standards you may have had....

Add on electronic overload

Yes, digital inequity is a big reason we can't do everything Online. Add in what happens to your body sitting at a computer, privacy concerns, and differences in parental supervision, and it's just...

If admin directs...

In our district, admins have district issued phones. When they call, it's from a work phone. I don't think they should have the right to tell teachers to use their personal phones. a work around like...

Mixed feelings

We called two weeks and then two weeks of Spring Break. So that means four weeks out. I'm in California, and the governor is saying to be prepared to shut down the school year.

We have a video...

Moby Max

Take a look at Moby Max. Their free fact fluency is good, and it encourages speeding up. Kids are rewarded with game time inside the app.

Not allowed to grade

Our district has instructed us that we cannot require nor grade any of the work we put together for kids. So, the bottom line is that students who really need instruction and practice don't get it....

can't video chat, either

My district said that I can't use Zoom, either. They cited student privacy concerns.

We also cannot use Meet, formerly Google Hangouts, because our G Suite for Ed administrator has blocked it.

"doesn't count" = Why do it?

I agree that students, especially high school, need a reason to do the work. If nothing counts, they see no reason to do it.

The hard thing for me is knowing that without that face-to-face...

Can record

When you finish a meeting, you have to download the meeting recording and then post to another hosting spot.

If you use Google Classroom, make sure your video format is Mp4, and you will be able...

Zoom is free for unlimited meetings now-

Zoom has a limit of 40 minutes for their Basic account. They've lifted that limit during the crisis for educators. It's a pretty cool way to connect with others digitally. I want to have a class...

So far, still doing BIG TEST

I am aghast that our state board of ed hasn't suspended the big standardized tests at the end of the year. Ours aren't really end-of-year anyway. They are actually done with only two-thirds of the...

child care for three days

We're providing child care for three days. Ts with their own children to care for don't have to come in. Ts who are older or have other vulnerability issues don't have to come in. Right now, less...

Not bad, just where you are

School is closed for two weeks, and church is shut down through the end of March.

My husband and I were commenting yesterday how a release from some responsibilities is kind of nice. We both do a...

We're closed for two weeks, then two weeks of Spring Break.

We are required to...

While we are 1:1 iPads, not all students take their tablet home. The parents want them kept at school because of the financial responsibility to replace it if damaged.

Then, add in that not all...

Do you have a curriculum?

First, stick with your curriculum at the beginning.

Things fifth graders tend to need:

Beginning, middle, end focus (They often fizzle out at the end.)
Can use a traditional story map for...

ageism for sure

Sad to say- but I think ageism it is. I'm starting to feel it, too. Higher-ups all come to see the young Ts who do exactly what they're told to do. Older Ts, who are actually innovating, get ignored,...
