Feel free to get your admin involved

If they don't drop it. It could certainly end up as harassment!

A few years ago...

I taught in a neighborhood where a lot of the parents worked shiftwork. So, most of the kids were picked up by babysitters, and I the first time I met a lot of the parents was at the fall conference....

There's a great, research-proven website

run by the Australian health department - www.ecouch.com

I HIGHLY recommend it. And a visit to your doctor, just in case.

I really like WestCoachTeach's idea

Of letting them know in a neutral way that you have something to share, then letting them contact you if they want it. Also, what are the school expectations on classrooms in the same grade level...

Write it down

Try having a particular box on the chalkboard where you write down what they need to have out. You can even do this before they come it for the day (Math: textbook, notebook, pencil. LA: Novel,...

My son's school

has a ton of teacher, principal, and super's kids - my own included. When he was in kinder, his teacher was in her first year, and was really nervous about living up to the standards of the...

I agree, there's usually someone

in this hiring climate, there's usually someone whose position is "is" before the interviews happen. That happened to me for my first three years, when I was just subbing. I kept getting interviews...

I agree with SusanTeach

that the focus should be learning, and that students should have more opportunities for learning the material that their poor test results show they didn't learn. Though I don't think it can all...

I'd go back to the P...

Sounds to me like you were absolutely right not to approach this person in the first place.
No one EVER has the right to "go off" on a coworker, no matter what the real situation was. In my...

My school would be like Super R's

It would be seen as a joke - not at my expense, but as one of those 'crazy things that kid's say.'

And my P would totally have asked me, in a fake-serious way, and possibly have reminded me about...

My worst parent/field trip experience...

Was the time that her son BEGGED me to it his best friend - whom he played with all day, every day - in his group. I hesitated, not because they were 'bad' together, in fact they were pretty good,...

happens rarely

usually for "tough" classes, or specialized teachers. Usually an aide, a specials teacher, or the AP would take the class though. But our subs are unionized, so the district can't just do it to save...

I'm with AD

I'm a morning person, so I usually get to work about an hour and a half before the students. At the end of the day, all I do is tidy the classroom. Around reporting time, I might bring home some...

Our district...

has to hire long-term subs from the sub pool. It makes getting on "the list" a little stressful, but eventually you're in the right place at the right time for that long-term position or contract.

I agree with Green Bunny

I had to articulate *why* I make all the choices I do. It helped me be more reflective and I made some changes to my practice after she left!

Just make sure...

when you stay with them, you're staying with *them* not just using thier house like a hotel. I barely speak to a former good friend because when we were living in a popular tourist city, her and her...

Bothers me, too!

Basically, if the shirt says something (or implies something) that I would speak to them about if they said it out loud - like complaining about homework - then they can't wear it in my class. I have...

Two things...

First, do you have a "bump it up board" in your room? Put up some examples of level 2 or 3 work (I had my class last year "create" some level 1, 2, 3 work so no one was singled out), then work as a...

As a mom...

I like to be called if my son is causing trouble at school. At the beginning of this year (second grade) he was causing a fuss and refusing to do his printing practice. The teacher didn't call for...

Going above and beyond...

"Why does she feel the need to do things then get all stressed out when she has too much to do, and blame it on me for not helping? Argh."

I hear you on this one! I have no beef with people who go...

My own son...

and I had this conversation last night. Same sort of thing. My DH works from home, so on his not-school days last year in K he was home with dad. He said he hated school, but what he *meant* was "I...

To add on...

to the idea of having high expectations...

Absolutely! It is hard, but important, to remember that you are his teacher - give him extra attention, love him with all your heart, but keep that...

When I did that with a 1/2 class...

I taught the shoe lesson, and the three bears lesson as a whole class, then did small strategy groups for the first few times they were allowed to pick, with carefully selected books that were either...

I worked with a student...

that had autism, and the para, who was from Jamaica, couldn't work with her simply because the student wouldn't stop touching her black skin. It was not a very diverse community, and the student...
