I'd be beyond upset.

That is putting the lives of your older relatives at risk.
I think it should be a crime.:(

Oh, I have spent 2 days stressed beyond

belief! I am the oldest at my school and most techy challenged. If it were not for a good friend, I'd be pulling my hair out along w/ the school boards! Long story, but I am around sick people!
I...

Can someone tell me

what exactly is meant by "elearning?
Is it a specific program or does it just mean the kids will have work online like on Canvas or something?
Thanks!

Yes, it has happened here for a few yrs.

If a kid is not functioning well, they will sometimes approve 1/2 days especially w/ sped kids.
HS kids who have enough classes are allowed too to come part time.
I have had a kid who only showed...

Online for elementary would be ridiculous

where I live.
I'd bet 100,000 bucks, no more than 2 kids would complete an online course for 2 weeks.
I could name the 2. ( Both have very responsible parents.)
Some, the only internet they...

I hear you!

I am done w/ the whole system as of this summer.
Things are not getting better for teachers here either.
I am sick of the dishonesty too.
The mean part of me says to wait until the last moment you...

Oh, man! I sympathize!

Our sped aides are like that! They do nothing but chat w/ each other. I don't deal w/it this yr, but it has been bad some yrs.
I finally told 2 of them that I could not hear the kid's answers with...

Wow! That is crazy!

Teachers here have always been exempt from jury duty during the school year. They make you reschedule it during the summer though.
I had just assumed it was the same everywhere.
Maybe if you set up...

Someone truly needs to tell the other

teacher to stop w/ the tattling! I never could understand people like that! Fortunately, the P trusted your judgment.
I feel very bad too for people w/out pd sick days. Sick days are important for...

I do not blame you..

I was DONE last yr. Then I got a carrot dangled in front of me. I was given a 100x better job for 1 yr only at the school.
THEN it would be back to the classroom next yr. It has been a fairly good...

It is different in different schools, but

what you said about the aides is so true at my school. : You may not know this, but many times, the para will arrive late, or not arrive at all. Also, when the para is in the classroom, they are...

I must be too cranky :)

I have never had a kid say that to me. Maybe it is regional and I am not in the region. :D

The 1st PS I taught at

was huge and filled w/ new teachers. 1/2 the staff had quit the yr before. ( I did not know that until I was working there.)
I think that is maybe why they treated teachers like gold. Still, as the...

I have seen P's come and go...

I think it depends a lot on how the district supports the P's. The 1st school I worked at P's were expected to deal w/ discipline and district office knew it would make some parents mad. They did not...

That was common practice when I was in

school. I remember friends did not mark friends papers wrong. ( like friends don't let friends drive drunk!) It was a silent code. There'd always be some dumba## boy who liked to make big red X's...

It is def out of your hands now!

Try to just realize, it will be OK 1 way or another. I do know how you feel about references. It is a shame how 1 person can really make or break someone's career.
For many yrs, I worked for admin...

I did not think of the possible

ramifications at 1st. I focused on the lying because the other admin at that school were not the type to "throw me under the bus."

If I had switched the kid to another teacher's class, I'd have...

So sorry for such a bad day!

We are all human and have emotions. I had "THAT" class before too.
It is hard to remain cheerful when you feel disrespected.
Sometimes as teachers, we consider ourselves superhuman and are too...

Over 20 yrs ago, we had tech teachers when computers 1st became popular.
We had 2 computer labs with highly trained staff to teach the kids and any teachers who wanted to learn. They kept updated....

Principals do talk.

If you were happy enough to stay at your school in the same grade level, can't you just tell the P?
You could say you really enjoy the grade level, and it is the only reason you'd consider leaving....

A time stands out to me...

Looking back, it was a pivotal moment when I really started looking at things differently.
Mom was very mad, cussing, and yelling at me in the hall. An AP had his mouth draped open and just stood...

Yep! We got a new P

a few yrs ago who really disliked the experienced teachers. He was insecure because he did not have a clue what he was doing.
Now he actually appears to appreciate the older teachers more because...
