Job share K

I dream of job sharing but have always felt I'd probably need to move to a different grade to do it well. Kinders really need consistency. Plus, I'd need to become less of a control freak :o

That...

Clip charts

Sounds like you're doing some good things but clip charts, IMO, add an extra power struggle because not only does the kid get to refuse to sit down/be quiet/whatever, they can also argue with you...

Rude

My P is forthright but not rude. If he did need to say something like that to a teacher I wouldn't hear about it because it would be kept private.

I definitely can't imagine him telling a teacher...

My Classroom

My classroom is 100% normal and has been all along. We've had very little covid in my country so we never did the remote learning thing or masks. We just wash our hands a little more than we might...

Management

I think it looks like;

Kids who know their teacher cares about them
Kids who know what is expected of them
Well organised routines and procedures
Consistent, logical consequences
A calm...

Bare minimum

I wonder what they would think if you just stuck with making them copy off the board every lesson. When they ask why you don't do fun lessons with them, well...."planning great, interactive lessons...

That's awesome! So many great ways to incorporate literacy and maths.

We did a virtual trip to the zoo a few weeks ago. "Visited" different enclosures via live cams and wrote about what we saw....

Wow that's so awful. When I was a student I don't think it ever would have occurred to me to tell on a teacher at all, unless it was an abuse type thing.

The lying sounds almost psychopathic....

Christmas

For our party, each child brings in a paper bag with something sweet (chocolate, lolly pop), something salty (popcorn or chips), and something to play with. (small bubble wand, glow sticks, stickers,...

Stupid

Wow! Not paying attention might be stupid but it's the behaviour, not the student.

I understand why you want to have the conversation in person, especially being new. I would be furious if...

Behavior kid

Sounds like ADHD. Struggling to attend, restless, impulse control issues from the sounds of it. I have two who are just like what you describe. Well-meaning lovely kids who are a constant...

Spending on Students

Like some of you, I've spent way too many $$$ over the years on classroom materials. And I was okay with it, I truly enjoyed giving good things to my students. BUT, as soon as someone says teachers...

In school

School is working pretty well here in Aus, at least where I am. We use temperature guns to check temps each morning. We wash hands (whole class) 5-6 times a day. (it doesn't take as long as I...

Singing

Singing! I have little songs and rhymes for almost everything - right down to putting the lid on a whiteboard marker e.g. "Put the lid back on the marker..till...it...clicks. Click!"

If I want...

Devices

I think it's a fair point that in some areas many devices probably won't make it back. Schools in my area that have done that decided to think of it as an investment, even though they know not...

Kids

I think once kids get to a certain age, parents really can't have that control. But that's why those battles need to be won long before the teen years. Toddlers and teens can be difficult. But from...

I am LOVING Zoom so far, but we've only been using it for 3 days. Given time, I'm sure the novelty will wear off ;)

Also....I taught my first kinder class on Zoom today. It was HILARIOUS. I had...

We're still in school where I am, but if we do close I will genuinely miss this group because they are AMAZING + I truly feel bonded.

But, there are some classes where I wouldn't have minded a...

The craziest thing is that the PM says school is still open but the NSW premier has told parents not to send their kids. It feels like Mum and Dad are arguing + no one's sure who to listen to. They...

I just wanted to chime in and say I'm so sorry you're in this situation. I subbed for the first 3 years of my career and loved it. To me, it is as valid a career choice as permanent teaching. Here in...

What?

I'm so confused about why 8th graders are 'always' asking you this. Neither as a student or a teacher have I come across a teenager napping during a test

Come to think of it, I've not...
