Advertisements... several variations are possible. A script for a TV or Radio Commercial... a testimonial. (This could dovetail into some of the ideas you've listed.)

A letter/resume/proposal...

My best suggestions...

One of my favorites is https://childmind.org/. I wish they did more videos... and some of their stuff can be a little clinical, but it's sound content--not just touchy-feely stuff.

If some of the...

Cloudy Crystal Balls...

I don't think anyone's crystal ball is very clear so it becomes pure speculation if not simply guessing. We keep looking for the silver bullet. I'm not sure we're going to find one--particularly in...

Not an answer, just some thoughts...

Moms do not always understand what the doctor says and, frankly, do not always tell the truth. Dementia in a 14-year-old would be extremely rare--one reason you are having trouble finding...

I like the suggestion of demonstrating what the "bare minimum" looks like when they receive it.

But my disclaimer is you're "fighting" a battle with the odds stacked against you, largely because...

Clouded Crystal Balls

One of the underestimated impacts of the current situation is the toll uncertainty is taking on everyone. Anyone (and I include the so-called "experts") who claims to know what's going to happen...

If the kids are old enough to use them, "click erasers" are great. Light is the enemy of erasers; it's what makes them get hard.

I've had the opposite problem. I am a big Microsoft Office user... when I received documents created in Pages (an Apple program, the extension is .odt.) I used to have trouble opening them. However,...

Sometimes we forget...

Just being in a room with people doesn't mean we're going to catch something... one of those other people would have to actually be infected. I don't think I'd have been too troubled about it,...

Expanding the index card idea...

I've seen a version of the index card idea used in live classrooms as a way to avoid disruption... the students each have a card "tent" that sits on their desks. It allows them to easily flip to...

Well, maybe two. I'm a little confused by what you mean "self-contained." That typically applies to special ed?

Be that as it may, I'd suggest you do some poking around on different forums and...

My two cents...

FWIW, I think the "silent signal" is a reasonable solution... assuming you can notice it--that can be challenging if it's a large group and you're focused on teaching/delivery.

Asking the question...

My two cents...

We've not had any issues (cases) in my very rural district, but other districts have... However, I would be very hesitant to immediately assume "cause and effect." There are many ways one can "catch...

No way--not on my watch!

One of the cardinal rules for substitutes is "Never leave your students unsupervised." Why on earth would we toss out that rule just because of technology!? This, it seems to me, is an example of...

This sounds very practical! I also teach adults and have had to switch over to some remote teaching so I know how difficult teaching remotely is... I'm sure many subs would be less than qualified to...

There have already been cases of parents objecting to something a teacher did while teaching remotely. In one case, the parent recorded the teacher.

It's a brave new world. :D

But in some...

I'm not a Google Classroom expert, so this is just an idea... I wonder if you could use two cameras? That's an option on many platforms. I hope to try it with Zoom.

Briefly, I should explain that I am an elementary sub, teach adults, and do some substitute teacher training in several districts. All generalizations are false, but mos of the subs I know are far...

Black, white, gray.

In defense of the original poster, I have COPD and have a lot of difficulty wearing a mask, especially while talking or teaching. My pulse ox (oxygen saturation rate) consistently drops 2-4 points...

It depends...

As a sub, I've seen several different approaches to this--somewhat different based on grade level. One that I really like in the "upper" grades (probably fourth and above) combines all the topics...

What do we teach how--my two cents

We've always had several challenges... many of which we (subs) share with regular teachers. One of them is the myriad and range of what we are required to teach. Add to that the reality that we...
