Quit Teaching?

I am really shocked and disappointed that someone said teaching isn't right for you because you have a mental illness and cried when being criticized. I really do not care at this point if any of you...

Depression and Student Connection

This has been bothering me for about two weeks and I have spoken to two close friends who don't have much to say about it, so I thought I would bring it here. I have always struggled with anxiety and...

It's becoming a trend

I think people forget that there is a lot of legal stuff admin has to follow before disciplining. Like, in my area, kids can only have so many ISS and alternative school days and to expel someone...

Not only should you feel encouraged by having a supportive admin, but the teacher must really respect you as a sub to try and make sure that you're not going to have it so rough you don't come back....

Oh no!

Oh no, I am sorry this is happening to you! I have had similar situations, so without being judgemental, could she be entitled or have an elitist personality? In my experience, the personality clash...

Worst Year Ever

In seven years of teaching, I could have sworn that I knew what a bad year looked like, but I had no idea until this year. I have been posting on here a lot and I usually don't, but this year has...

Are districts allowed to end your benefits before the 12 month pay period is up? I am leaving districts and they sent me a notice just TODAY that my benefits will be withdrawn at the end of this...

Really Like This Advice

I really like this advice and need to remember it!! If I have witnessed children being irresponsible, what made me think I should trust their comments 100%?? LOL Thanks. And you're right, most of the...

Teacher Evaluations

This is not a vent, but I think this board gets more traffic. I wanted to hear advice and opinions: what do you think about giving kids teacher evaluations? Do you take them seriously? I usually give...

I agree

I think that is why I am one of the only ones to feel like I would rather teach than have in services and stuff. Adults can be mean. With kids, I can understand that they may be rude at times, but I...

This is why I didn't post for awhile...

I don't agree with GoodEnough's rant because for one this is a vent board and secondly, just like she states that you can't make an assumption, she can't make one about the situation based on one...

That's Why We Became Teachers

It's a particular personality trait to want to be around kids all day--I believe that is why most of us went into teaching. I am great with kids and have been praised for being able to build...

I have Tried

According to the kids' ARDS, the aid actually only needs to be in the room for 46 mins throughout the week. I asked (begged) the principal to just pull her the last couple of weeks of school and she...

Why Does Admin and Even Listen???

I don't understand why admin even listens to someone who is not certified talk about how to run a classroom. She puts me on edge, and days that should be easy and relaxing are harder because of her...

Pay Me Professionally

Very well said. I hear all of the time that if teachers want to be treated as professionals then they should dress as such. I say, pay me like a professional and then I would be more than happy to...

High School

Certain strategies depend on what kind of school you teach at: urban or rural? If they are crumpling up the seating chart confidently, I am going to assume a big school in the city? If you're allowed...

I came from the "bad" school

I feel ya! I transferred from the "bad" school and came to the "good" school only to decide I want to go back to the "bad" one. As a PP pointed out, it tends to be a racist thing but no one comes...
