I concede.

And again, I am sorry that happens to anyone. Disrespect is not professional in any job.

FWIW, I subbed for 6 years before teaching. I was a para for a year between years 7 and 8. I subbed...

luv2teach, I hate that for you in that case.

Like I said, I've been in schools for over 20 years now in multiple states and all age levels and have had that (or assumed that) to be the case. I know now more than ever that I've been really...

QTIP-Quit taking it personally...

I think most of the time, it is this:

I have been a sub and a teacher in different states and at all grade levels (PreK to HS+.) Most schools have a policy of "Takes a village" where everyone...

It is frustrating

I teach SpEd to ED/BD and those in need of self-contained. I have 9 HSers and 1 3rd grader. It is frustrating. I will grant you that. About 3-4 of the HSers are low functioning only and the rest...

We are small school.

And in a small rural town. At the time, we are also one of the largest employers in town. So, yes. We have many family members and spouses among the staff.

In a town like ours, there is no way...

Can you get TP rolls, or the cardboard rolls

from Christmas paper, paper towels, etc?

These are cool:

Google the other people involved...

Sybil Ludington (April 5, 1761 February 26, 1839)

Revere got the publicity and a place in the History books but other people played similar roles-including the woman above.

Google

Sybil Ludington (April 5, 1761 February 26, 1839)

She was a female counterpart to Paul Revere in a Midnight ride scenario.

Paul got the credit but he had help.

For materials

I use math-aids.com

It has worksheets and math helps for all areas.

You can customize many areas and print as many as you like. Once you set your parameters and print once, you can hit the...

I have at times felt that way

but then I realized that as long as the items I choose meet the needs of my students, are correct and on level, I would be foolish to NOT avail myself of a potential resource.

The problem, to my...

The one thing you

cannot control is other people.

As long as the gen ed teachers are getting answers, comfort, and/or other validation from these other folks, and those folks are allowing it, it won't end.

I agree with the pp

Also, be sure to check your district's policies as well. Effective or not, it has to be allowed or grief will follow. Then you need to get all of the participants to follow those rules as well.

Can you

go to testing websites and look at sample tests? When I took the test for my Praxis and later the Pearson core content tests, I went to ETS and looked at the sample tests in any areas even remotely...

Sounds typical of professors to me...

This is something I am going through right now. My very lovely para has a four-year degree in an unrelated field. She is pursuing her certification by getting her Masters in SpEd. I do share IEPs...

Have you ever done vocabulary

using "shades of meaning?"

When we talk of "tired" words and encourage them to be more descriptive, it helps to rate words or put them in sequence. You could do that and then point to the two...

It depends...Just my thoughts,

since you asked, ...on the grade level. PK-4/6th I think the homework is basically worthless. It all depends on the schedule and household of the parent. The students have so little control of...

It is all about the paperwork for

the Admin. The laws regarding restraint, seclusion, and isolation have changed so that there is paperwork required on a Federal level by Admin. These incidents also count towards a District's...

Look at the date on the article.

If it was written January of 2018, "the fall" she references would have been August/September of 2017. But it also says "This piece was originally published in Slate on March 26, 2014." That means...

Absolutely NOT!

Failure is not trying at all. Moving on to a new school, district or even a different job outside of ed is just a move. Period. Failure is accepting all the crap and not trying to change!

You can...

My suggestion--FWIW--

Can you flip it around--if she gets Smiles, she gets recess. Don't go for 100% right away. Go for more smiles than frowns then move along the target number as she makes progress. OR another plan...

I think

behavior and social skills are both tough to teach--so much of it only seems to work if we do it as the misbehavior occurs.

However, that said, you could try some role-playing with the students in...
