Districts have to cover the cost?

Many have had to pay out of pocket. I don't think districts have to pay for induction. Maybe they changed, though?

In the contract

Ours is in the contract. MTT/BTS or whatever we want to call it, Open House in the spring, and one other "night" of our choice. We don't get paid (extra) for those.

PD Peeves

What about sitting still the whole time while the presenter reads the slides -- THAT THEY HAVE PRINTED OUT FOR YOU --and does nothing else? No discussion, no time to absorb. Grrr

Or the one PD I...

Give her a chance

Yeah, her ideas might be so over the top, but just go with the flow at first. Build a relationship with her as a staff, and try not to complain too much! It might actually be good (decorating the...

Day 1

Day 1 is when I start. I spend more time with procedures/routines, but it's always with content.

Year 21

Made me feel terrible, but I realized it wasn't me. It was VERY hard to shake off! Some years are like that.

We have one, too

Maybe we work at the same place.
I would keep documenting. Admin has been informed and it's out of your hands, unless it starts up again. Ask for him not to be in your class, if possible.

Been There

There is no pleasing some people. That said, meet with mom and get her on your side. Reassure her that you understand and that you know she wants best for little Oedipus. Let her know that you will...

Generally like PD

I generally like PDs. There have been some that are deathly boring, and some that are really engaging. I find the "Ed Camp" ones to be best, because you can pick and choose from a variety of topics....

TPT is cute

It's adorable for cute decorations. I don't use it for curriculum, because we have enough of that!

Typical

Unfortunately that is so typical. I work in a very large district, and it's unusual for new hires to have any access to their sites until the week before school starts. Usually they are cleaning,...

It depends

It depends on your state requirements. I'm in CA, and we have what's called an Intern Credential, which you can get if you are enrolled in a program through a university. I don't know about other...

More info

1) Grading system. If she pads the grades, that is on her. Make sure you can justify yours.

2) Discipline. That's up to your Principal to take care of. However, you say the P likes her, so don't ...

Could it be that she feels being part of your team overwhelming and just wants to forge her own path? Are you all Type As that dominate the discussion? It's really hard to break in to an already...

2nd grade is awesome

I love 2nd grade! Your theme sounds cute. I wouldn't put stars for "acing a test" though. Don't shame any students in public. You could do Star of the Week with a Hollywood theme, and pick a student...

Not the right fit

Always a good answer. If they ask for details, you should have an answer that a) gives them enough details, and b) doesn't make you look bad. You should put everything in the most positive light...

Absolutely

Agree 100%. It makes it so much easier. Let the kiddos get comfy (unless, of course, you have an "old school" P who wants them sitting in rows)!

Yeah, I have worked with P's like that, as well as P's who aren't. In my experience, more P's are like this one, which is a shame. Good for her for leaving. I hope she let the Human Resources dept....

Sounds like she has connections. What about the contract? Does it specify how teachers are to be reassigned?
