Are you kidding me?

I'm having my students do class awards (Most Likely to...)
I gave them a paper with all the blanks, they just have to put the names in.
I also said to do it quietly, without telling anyone who they...

That's crazy.

I can't imagine. In my school, the "high" kids are in the 50th percentile. More than 25% of our school is either AEL or special ed.

It has to be appropriate for the classroom.

I never play music until I have thoroughly checked out the lyrics. I rarely let them pick music, this was a high point value reward. He got to pick 5 songs.
I switch up the music: instrumental...

Classroom music

One of the Dojo awards was choosing music for the class to listen to while on computers.
One boy chose it. The songs he chose are awful. Not inappropriate, just yuck. Including "Old Town Road",...

I give a survey.

It's only for my eyes, though. I like to hear what the kids have to say. It helps me develop and modify my lessons and my classroom management.

I see your point.

I guess it's just different with my teammates. I just borrowed a class set of books from my teammate. I used them, and gave them back. I've loaned things to her, and to other teachers. I've never...

Class dojo!

I just started using it (like a few weeks ago), but I love it.
It has quite a bit of capability, including parental involvement. Parents can sign up to get notifications when their kids receives...

I don't see it as a big deal.

All you have to say is no. I always say it doesn't hurt to ask.

Definite technology ban. I had a student log into others' accounts on readworks and turn in work under their name. He has been on a tech ban for 2 weeks, and will continue until the end of school...

THAT parent.

Um, why does she need more details about the paint brushes? He took them, what else is there to know?
The punching I can understand. When my son was younger, I always wanted to know what led up to...

What the test materials are in

We use plastic bins. All testing materials, including instructions, pencils, scratch paper, tickets, etc. must be placed back in the bin so they can be accounted for.

Ugh.

Can't stand it. I'm a boy mom, have always hung around boys/men, and have never done the girl drama thing.
I had a bunch last year and it about killed me.
I always say that I'd rather have a...

All anecdotal.

I don't think the what a teacher wears has any bearing on students' learning, unless the clothing is distracting.
My sons had a gifted teacher who wore costumes and had hair dyed about 5 different...

This isn't a charter school issue.

The way the students treated that teacher has nothing to do with charter vs. public school.
My thought is it had more to do with the clash of cultures/ethnicities, and/or the fact that she was part...

Math Mysteries

I have a bunch of math mysteries that I have collected (bought) from TPT. There is a scenario, and students have to solve math problems to find clues. Then they have to narrow down the suspect...

I used to say that!

Now I just say, "I don't argue with students." Or I just stare at them. I wear contacts, so I can go a very long time without blinking. Totally creeps thems out.LOL

We're still going.

I'm continuing with math, haven't stopped. We're also doing a novel study this week in Language ARts. Still working on explorers in social studies, and animal adaptations in science. If I don't ...

I have one of those, too.

Kid DESPERATELY needs his meds, he's barely functional without them. But apparently they "lost" his meds, so he doesn't have them.
I wonder how much ADHD meds go for on the street?

I don't rise to it.

Even if they are pushing my buttons, I either ignore them, or say something like, "Discussion over." or "Asked and answered."
I can FEEL that they are pushing my buttons, but I try hard not to react.

Students arguing.

I have a handful of students this year who seem to want to argue with everything I say.
Literally every thing out of my mouth they have to argue. If I say open to page 100, "No, it's page 101!"
I...
