The every other week is due to our district making a "priority plan" where we teach grammar and writing one week and spelling and writing another week. It's a nightmare, and in the past I just did...

Out of 20 students, I have 1 that is on grade level. Half the class is 2 or more grade levels behind. In fact, I have at least 4 that read at a Kindergarten level (in 4th grade).
I am mandated to...

Lunch in the classroom sucks.

I hate that we have to have lunch in the classroom. My kids eat in about 5 minutes, and then are obnoxious the rest of the time. I really hope we can go back to eating in the cafeteria next year.

I Second "Second Step"

We use Second Step school wide, and I really like it. The Day 1 lesson is the longest, but it only takes a few minutes on the other days.

She came in like a wrecking ball.

She came in and immediately started yelling at my kids - with me right there. They were working on a social studies project, so they were in small groups around the room. Two girls were working...

Picking your battles.

We just now got a building sub for the first time all year (with 8 days left of school). From February until now our specialists have been filling in.
I had to be out yesterday afternoon for my...

Some places are beginning to teach integrated mathematics, instead of the traditional: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II pathway (which makes zero sensein mathematics education). That's what this...

Told a kid to shut up.

Yeah, not proud of it. Second time in my career that I've done it. But this kid wouldn't shut up. The class was working on iReady diagnostic (computer based standardized testing), and he kept...

A week in advance

We come back to work a week before the students, and any collaborative planning is done at that time.
That being said, we are given a pacing guide by the district, and subject area schedule by our...

We had our state-mandated standardized testing April 6-8 (for my grades). Today and tomorrow is MAP testing (growth), and NEXT week is iReady online testing.
How do they expect us to "catch up" all...

It is new. It's her thing. I will only provide positive feedback.

I'm really disappointed that she called me by the wrong name in her email reply. You would think after a year of working here,...

Evaluating other staff?

We have a new principal this year (well, she's interim, but will be permanent). She sent out an email asking us to evaluate non-certificated staff. If we work with a TA, we're supposed to evaluate...

But I have a 4/5 combo class with academic levels from mid-K to 8th grade (seriously). That combined with Covid restrictions mean there is more...

Nothing definitive, but a plan

We have a 3 option plan: Low risk, we go back as usual. Medium risk, some type of hybrid - maybe half the students in the morning, half in the afternoon. High Risk, online learning only.
