The grid would make my quick seating chart more legible- thanks for the idea. I also like the visual whiteboard idea. I'll give them both a try.

Thanks for your response. If called with enough time I do try to make a quick seating chart. You gave me some other things to think about, too.

Former Catholic school teacher of 30 years

I just read your post now. So, I'm not sure where you are as far as the first grade position. However, I will tell you that in my experience if you have to teach religion, they want you to be...

Agree

I taught in a Catholic school my last 26 years and then for five years before my daughter was born. Yes, I found that about five of my 27 students would attend mass regularly with their families.

Class management without searing chart

Hi! I am a retired teacher after 30 years of teaching intermediate as well as my last five in grade 2. This probably should be on the sub board but I feel that I might get better advice here.

I...

Looking for help getting a new job- from Scared

I wasn't sure which board to write this on. I recently had to leave a school after 25 years where I was well loved by both students and parents. However, it was the administration battle that I...

The best school year ever

I used to read it aloud when I taught fourth grade, and they loved it. Even then, some didn't quite understand it. I would not read it to second graders, which is where I am now.

Don't give up if you really want to teach

An additional thought: A reading specialist works with one to three students at a time. That is something that you might feel comfortable with and excel at. Several of my college friends do this and...

Christmas novels

Thank you, Auntie M! I know that book from when I taught fourth grade but thought that it would be too hard for second grade. I'll give it a try.

I love the Vera Bradley totes and find that they last forever. They are durable and attractive with lots of pockets inside and outside.
