Paper straws

I can't stand those paper straws. They taste horrible. The texture is annoying. And I don't feel like rushing to finish a drink just so the straw doesn't disintegrate. I had a slushie recently that I...

Jobs unrelated to teaching

Washington DC trip

Does anyone have any ideas for some great "off the beaten path" ideas for Washington DC? I don't want to be too touristy and I am open to anything.
