I'm trying to plan for next year (some how). I'm planning like we're going back as normal, but also making plans if we have a split schedule (half of the students in the morning, half in the...

We have a 3 option plan: Low risk, we go back as usual. Medium risk, some type of hybrid - maybe half the students in the morning, half in the afternoon. High Risk, online learning only.

This particular student got 100% on the spelling test last week. This week, well, you see. There is no speech or hearing issues. He is ELL, but has been here in school since K (he's in 4th).
He is...

My son is autistic, and wasn't dx until he was 12. And that's only because he has a mood disorder (bi-polar, actually).

ADD is also a tough one, because if it's impulse control issues it may not...

Diagnosis doesn't equal behavior

Just because he doesn't manifest behaviors at school does not mean he doesn't have an illness.
Adolescents can be diagnosed with specific disorders, though it's not that common.

4th grade fight club.

We just had a meeting and found out that a bunch of our 4th grade boys have been participating in a "fight club" in the bathroom. And someone was putting it on TikTok.
One of the parents found the...

They can't tell time.

My 4th graders. It's maddening. I had a digital clock that I kept by my bathroom sign out sheet, because they can't tell time with an analog clock.
SOmeone broke the digital clock, so they're back...

Not really a lack of historical awareness.

I mean, knowing that butter wasn't commercially available until the late 1900s is kind of niche knowledge.

Sorry. I find know-it-alls to be be incredibly annoying. LOL

There just aren't enough subs

Like I said before, it's district-wide. It's not just our school. The subs I've talked to love working at our school. They say that the teachers and staff here are really helpful and welcoming.. ...

Again today.

So I'll have 30 kids today, including the worst behavior student in the grade. The one that we've had to call the police for several times this year. This in addition to my regular behavior kiddos...

It’s district wide.

Our subs get $165/day. But we have a severe sub shortage across the district. No one can tell us why.

Just venting˜

Thought this was a vent board.
Of course I don't want them to come to school sick. And I never said it's my business why they are out. I also get that's it's not their fault. But it gets...

I can't believe I missed that!

I'm kicking myself! My students work on MathWhizz 2-3x a week, usually first thing in the morning, when I'm doing attendance, lunch count, etc. Each week I look to see individually what topics each...

Reach for Reading

From National Geographic.
I personally love it. It has a lot of really good literature included, and the anthologies are very engaging. It encompasses Social Studies and Science, so that's a plus....

It's not a big deal, but we are supposed to sign out/in. In case someone is trying to reach you, or there is an emergency.

We didn't have parties.

I honestly don't remember having parties in school. Maybe we did, but I certainly don't remember that.
I find Valentine's day to be pretty silly, and really don't see what the big deal is.

We...

If we had school on the day

I would allows valentines exchange. I just think it's silly to have it on a day that's not the day.

We have to address students' basic needs before we can address their educational needs. I work in a very low income school. While parents tend to be uninvolved, it's generally not because they don't...

When they were told that we have conferences this week (half-days), and they are off on Friday, they asked when we were doing valentine's. I told them we weren't.
They asked if they could bring...
