Maniac Magee is perfect for social issues

My class of mixed race (and that includes several who are mixed race themselves) students loved this read aloud.

We just had a big minute to win it afternoon...everyone seemed to love it...involve gym teacher...we had a hula hoop contest, the cookie slide down the face game, basketball layups, etc.

Poetry Read Alouds or Fun Readers Theatre

Get a bunch of Prelutsky, Silverstein, and Lansky poetry books...have them rehearse and perform.

Or find a fun reader's theatre...with no questions to go with it!! Ha. Just for the fun and fluency...
