Smart boards are great fun (though I miss my blackboard for teaching shading and things like that...)

The neat thing is that you can draw over powerpoint slides....get kids to find the vanishing...

pardon the late response...

Basically I just tacked myself on to the agenda for the regular "meet the teachers" night, and laid down the law :) My admin was supportive, but I think much of that has to do with the new school...

i've been using the printouts all year with all my grades for early finishers. My 5s made analogous colour collages with scraps- a joint project with math symmetry lesson and the 4s made chalk...

..use the standards when talking to admin and parents.

ex according to this and this, I need to cover this and this. I need this and this to do that. If not, these standards will be neglected.

we had a good talk..

I pulled the student out of class and we had a little chat about appropriate things to talk about etc but tried to reinforce that if one has questions about sex or anything else one can talk to...

With the pps. Good ridance! To have the nerve to demand her colleagues step in to clean-up after what sounds like a hissy-fit is one thing, but to then turn on you when you politely decline takes it...
