8 hour drive one way ..

I drove up the night before, stayed in a hotel, drove home after. I did not get the job.

BUT they shared my name with a neighboring district and I got that job without another interview.

Thanks so much for the heads up...

I went by today and it was exactly as described. I got several really nice things-border sets and large packs of stuff for only $14.00--would have been over $75 original price.

Mine also had...

Around here

it would probably mean that the P liked you and you were HIS choice but HR or the Board had someone else in mind...or you failed a reference check.

We have small schools around here with no real...

Our school is an A+ school and

the kids are required to do so many hours of "tutoring" or other approved types of community service for at least two years. If all of the criteria is met, the HS students can get tuition assistance...

I am in a WEP state as well.

No retirement SS from the previous career although I paid in more than 40 quarters there, no disability or SSI/SSDI if I become disabled, no payments from spouse if he dies first.

Are there any...

I don't think that is usually for subs...

The last district I subbed for only paid once monthly. The pay period was by calendar month for any days worked January 1-31 were turned in by 2/15 and paid by check on March 1. So a date worked...

Take this for what its worth

I teach SpEd for MS and HS. My ELA and Reading blocks for resource look very different from those for self contained.

For me it really depends on the student levels and the GenEd courses these...

And to follow through

I think it shows up later in 2nd-12th grade when they don't know how to follow rules or take turns or ... whatever.

We have middle schoolers who still engage in parallel play because they never...

LOL Fake Vacations and Travel

I never post about my real vacations or travel. Rarely a single picture. I am just paranoid enough that we don't want people to know when we are out of town... Then, when we return it doesn't seem...

I think it would depend on a number

of things for me--

Do they have the work done? Is it supposed to be turned in that day?
Are they gambling? is money or other bets involved?
Are they disturbing others?

If there are quiet,...

This ticks me off!

Back in the day, when SmartBoards were new to our district and super expensive, mine was the only portable one with a projector on a cart. For several Mondays in a row, I'd come back to suspicious...

Preach it!

Though mainly unspoken, I'd bet we all agree with you. :p

I would feel differently if I thought there was any proof the testing meant ANYTHING! Anything at all. I don't. I know smart folks who...

Since you already

know you prefer SpEd, I would stay the course as is. After you are certified as a teacher (period,) there are additional certifications you can add by testing and/or minimal course work.

We've been out a week now and I'm

just now feeling like sleep is refreshing me in any way. The full moon never helps.

I'm almost embarrassed to admit my sleep has been affected by thoughts of the jumbled mess of what I did wrong...

free stuff

As a former sub and now teacher, I am a fan of things that do not cost or have any prep. Tell your friend to compile of things she can google stuff the kids can use with their own paper and...

I always made sure the paras

had "A space" but it was not necessarily always a desk. Whatever fit their needs...

Most appreciated it without abusing it. I did have one case where the para starting bringing her computer in...

How do you know?

How do you know what they are doing and/or what she is doing? When you pop in to drop stuff off, you see just a moment in time... a tiny portion of her day.

Are you SpEd as well? Sometimes kids...

I think it is seems fair in this instance

If they are still paying her a check after her leave days are gone. They could have made her go on unpaid FMLA instead. In the positions that fully pay the sub, the teacher did not get paid as...

oh my!

At my last district, we not only were thanked often, I received $22.50 per 50 minute period in the very next check if we gave up a plan period to cover someone internally.

I guess I side with those

who say to stay out of it as you don't know the whole story.

She may have made arrangements with her superior to have that time. She may have an altered contract time, an extra duty, or...

Angelo, what you shared is not new news to me. I find it ridiculous but not surprising. Some parents fail to use the IEP as a way "to level the playing field" as intended and see it more as a...

As tempting as it may be to share,

I am also in the camp of "not burning bridges" if at all possible. Tell them as soon as your new position is confirmed.

I told the first as soon as I knew I was leaving as I was also moving. I...
