Good Job!

I had plans to do the same, but no snow days this year. Maybe during spring break! Isn't it amazing how much stuff we can collect over time.

You could have them sort seeds by different attributes.
Make their own seed packets. This would need them to list what the plant is, steps to planting (plant needs), germination, etc.

Here is

one I use early in the year with recess rules. Its called Mean Jean the Recess Queen. I don't have the book handy so I can't tell you the author, but I'm sure I got it from Scholastic.

a table

How about a table that he/she can use. They could borrow your tape, stapler, etc. That way they do have a space of their own. I always make sure they feel comfortable using my desk, closet, etc.

Look at Wal-mart

I was just in our local Wal-Mart and they had 3 ring binders on their clearance stuff. They were under $1 for sure.

a contract? I have a contract for 190 days and my salary is spread over 12months, September to August. Where do you teach? I'd check my contract and contact a lawyer. This does not sound correct.

Unit journals

We have journals/logs for each individual units. They do some writing with prompts and then there are some pages that they complete, or record their observations.

What is his background? Is he a former HS teacher or something? Your grade level team needs to sit down and talk to him again. Multiplication is not a normal first grade expectation.
