feedback

Of all the schools I sub at, the charter schools are the only ones for which you need to leave a feedback on Aesop. I always do, and take home with me the info I know I'll need; names of absent...

The alphabet belongs in math?

I didn't understand this part of your comment...
However, I am surprised that the teacher left you in this position; usually teachers leave plans and worksheets that the sub doesn't need to be...

preferred subs

Yes, it would be rude to ask a teacher why he/she did not particularly target you for the job. You should never ask a question if you are not comfortable with all possible answers.

I haven't quite...

Subs must unionize!

My own experience, and what I hear from other sub teachers, bear out the following:
1- Sub teachers are grossly underpaid, with no built in cost-of-living increases (my districts have been paying...

also against long-term jobs!

I'm with you on that! The pay is certainly not comparable, but I never again want to come home at the end of a tiring day and have to 1) grade student work 2) have to prepare for upcoming classes!...

Advice to new sub

I'm in Michigan, so the situation might be different. AESOP is a great program, the proprietary rights in Mich belong to a "middle man" company named PESG, which treats you like a "Kelly girl"...

arrival prior to class time

The districts in which I sub usually give the arrival time for subs as 20 mins before the start of classes. I find that at least 20 mins before start of class is necessary, esp. in the lower grades!...

daily pay

Same here in Michigan, with a few charter schools paying $90. The public schools in the few districts I sub in, have been stuck at $75/day for the last 10+ years!

middle school subbing

Middle school can be horrible, especially for subs. But if you talk to people about it, you'll find out that it was horrible for most students, as well. Some teachers believe that one should allow...

Yes, I was in a similar situation 2 years ago. A district I had subbed in for 7 years before a "sub center" took over had apparently "banned" me. It took me weeks of badgering the sub company before...

My sub bag

Of course I carry some office supplies since I can't count on finding these in all classrooms. To keep students happy I also have:

- glittery stickers as k-3 rewards (stars and smiley faces are...

Wow! Stereotyping, anyone?

I haven't been on this site for some time, so did not see the venomous responses to my complaints about 'auto-accept" programs. As it happens, I think it's absurd to pay high amounts for either TV or...

long term subbing

LOL!

I found myself in the same position a few years ago; asked to start the next day, no plans, no access to materials, etc.

I had the position for a few months and part of it was...

Thanks for writing again!

To answer your questions; I'm already multidistrict, but the one I was banned from -my home district- is the largest, and I've worked here so long I have established...

Still no letter from the contracting company, so I do not know any details. With my removal from the district list, I lost access on Aesop to all past info , so can't be sure which school issued the...

Good advice! This is a fairly large district, but I do happen to know a school board member. Ironically, she and I had served on the same committee for Spec Ed some years ago (see further info in my...

Thanks for writing again! You know the whole situation by now; since I'm still on sub list for other districts, no complaint reaching way up to sub license. Only response to my e-mails from the...

why subbing....

During most of my adult life, I taught at universities of very high standing. A family situation led to my "temporarily" removing myself from academia. As most people don't know, mathematics is a...

I have barred entire schools....

We use AESOP here. Their website does allow you to pick which schools you will/won't go to. After a couple very nasty days, I put a local high school and one middle school on my "do not show" list....

strange pay system!

I never heard of such a pay system; I think most of us get paid when we work, and do not have "availability" days or pay.

In our district there is one list for teacher subs, and another for...
