Trial

I confess I am addicted to the Jodi Arias trial on HLN TV. It's so interesting to watch the trial process and how each side thinks they are right! I AM knitting at the same time, and reading my...

Nice!

That's so good - and it's not often subs get kudos and positive feedback! You must feel delighted.

Hate it!

I so can relate. This happened recently when the volunteer "grandma" in the classroom (part of a program where I live) said these exact words! It was 1st Grade and the kids were being quite normal...

Easy sub days

I like being Media specialist for the day. I get to enjoy the kids and the books. The only hard part is reshelving books which I always do because I don't want to leave mountains of books for the...

Baileys

I'm in sunny Florida and have no fireplace. I remember living in colder climates though and having one. I loved the ambience too and the excuse to add Baileys to my coffee. Enjoy your relaxation. ...

Maybe keep some

Maybe keep some books, stickers and other favorite activities just in case you decide to sub. I gave away so much but had a few regrets because I do now sub and take some activities with me in case...

You can always sub

You can always sub or volunteer if you miss the good things about teaching.

What I like about subbing is that I can focus on enjoying the kids, teaching them something I know they find difficult...

Cookies!

What a lovely thoughtful thing to do! I know those cookies will disappear like hot cakes!!

I have thought of that but not done it - maybe you have inspired me to make the effort. I don't make...

Just retired at 94!

Did you all read about the English teacher who only just retired at the age of 94? I was amazed and wondered if perhaps I should go back and do another 30 years of teaching since sometimes I do miss...

Now I know why I retired!

After 6 straight weeks of subbing for a maternity leave lst grade teacher I am exhausted. I enjoyed the class and confess I went above and beyond my duties, even completing report cards online and...

long term sub

I am in my fourth week of a 6 week maternity leave sub job in 1st Grade.

I am loving it because it's the school from where I retired and I know the place and the people. I can enjoy teaching...

Good advice

Thanks to Sub14 - that is excellent advice.

I would also add to think of something you like doing with students, could be a game, story, acting, etc. There may be a time you need to fill.

I...

Mini word wall

Does anyone have a mini word wall page that would fit in the back of Journals. It has A to Z squares with common words and space for students' requested words.

I would really appreciate a copy or...

Get a retired teacher

I agree, try to find a retired or experienced teacher in your student age group.

He or she will be able to follow your plans and add her own ideas and strengths.

Good luck with your new baby!

Coffee cards are always appreciated, or teaching supplies that are always needed like really good pencils!

Maybe boring is good sometimes

It sounds like this is not your style. You like to be busy and active so don't accept again.
I can imagine how slow and boring the day was for you. But at least you were not stressed out by out of...

Reminds me of....

When I was teaching K a few years ago, a fellow colleague in K saw me with my line of students after lunch. They were a bit noisy and out of line. She said to me: "Mrs. M. your students really...

Thank you all for the responses and ideas.

Today was pretty much as usual. There will be a meeting tomorrow about the one truly out of control and disruptive student. It may be recommended that...

Unbelievably challenging ESE

I accepted a sub job at my old school for the rest of the year - 22 days. What was I thinking? I was feeling depressed and decided I needed to do something useful and rewarding to feel better. ...

Love PJ jeans

I love mine. I bought a pair at CVS drugstore so I could return them if they didn't fit. Well I had to shorten them because I'm only 5.2. I also took out the pink string tie around the waistband...

Rigor

I'd like to know the answer to this one too. I'm newly retired but make fun of my fellow teachers when I volunteer at my old school. I remind them when they are going to be evaluated not to forget...

Don't have to find a sub!

One of the things I love about being retired is not having to get a substitute when I'm sick. I have a terrible cold and feel awful but am relaxed as I flop on the couch and watch movies because I...
