Pen Pals

I teach second grade in Washington state. We have had pen pals in the past and I would love to do it again. I'm not sure how many students I'll have, but probably around 24.

For your advice. The meeting did not go well and in part because the child has made up other instances of how mean I am to her. Parents blew a cork when I told them the stories weren't true. They...

Parents make the final decision on whether or not to retain. So only rarely, and usually only kinders, is anyone retained. I've stopped trying.

He could also be a predator practicing on his teacher. I once had a similar problem with a fifth grade boy. When I mentioned what was happening and the creepy feeling I got, admin got right on it and...

We used to have one staff meeting once a week, sometimes every other week. Now each week we have: staff meeting, PLC, and grade level. Added to that, once a month there is a meeting with the...

A good place to find videos and other helpful ideas is the teaching channel. It's free to sign up. I have only watched a handful of videos, but...

This will be

my third year with 30 students. 25 is the cap, but that doesn't matter in my district. We get overload pay, but 30 is just too many.

Homework

I assign weekly homework. Those that do not complete and return it stay in during afternoon recess to work on it until it is complete. It's a pain, but they need the practice that homework provides...

If they no show

on me, I do nothing. I have enough to do without trying to run down parents that obviously don't want to talk to me.

I had a similar experience

In one of my first jobs. There was a group of people who barely spoke to me and verged on being downright rude when we met in small groups. I was younger and less mouthy then so I just carried on but...

Still have parties

at my school. Wish we could just have some treats and watch a movie -- do something quiet. Maybe I will get a sub. At least it's easy to plan for one that day!

I'm jealous

Went to Walmart today and was in a big hurry. I didn't notice any sale signs, but also wasn't looking. I'm going to be mad at myself if that sale was in my store and I missed it!!
