I think that they are referring to older grades when they mention the 10 minutes. In the younger grades I believe word work is a full round like any other choice.

Class books

I also read How to Loose your Friends and we do a book titled How to Keep Your Friends. I photocopy the cover as the title page and just cross out lose and write in KEEP. The kids often choose it...

I understand now, it's kind of like making words but they don't have the individual letters... they write/record on their white board. I like the recording the word chain idea :)
