Picking noses is normal at that age.

Still it is gross! I had an older kid with a sinus infection that put a big one on each finger. When I'd try to read alone with him, he would open and shut his hands in a way to make me think he was...

We have 1 like that too.

A couple of yrs ago, teachers started dividing up into groups for lunch according to friendships. It is a cliquish school. We don't have to listen to the negativity anymore. Now our lounge is usually...

Hotbox, MS2, and Emily

Emily, I do not really understand the Trauma Informed program, I have never sat through an in-service on it even. It seems like all the non classroom teachers, who are pulling a kid at a time or are...

If any of your admin are supportive...

I'd forward it to him/her and as a previous poster suggested coldly invite her to meet with both of you. I have had administration in the past that would knock the parent down about 10 pegs with a...

Thanks for the article.

I forwarded the link. If peeing on lunches was the worst PBIS helped our school become, I'd be a happy lady.
I wish there was a way I could add more to their list of bad behaviors rewarded....

Sorry..I am not sure what elopement is??? The school is definitely not helping these kids. They are reinforcing this is a way to get what you want.
I even feel a bit sorry for what the future holds...

Are new teachers being brainwashed?

I work in a school where there are more kids with disabilities than not now. Things were not always this way. Most of us taught average classes with some stink pots and a few LD in the past, but...

Pregnancy and having children change

the dynamics of friendships sometimes. In my experience only.
I'd encourage her to keep drinking the water and watch her class when asked. The school should have a rotating aide somewhere who could...

He may have been told a lie or misunderstood

something you said or did. A new admin treated me crummy for yrs partially due to a liar and gossip. Partially due to his and my personality too. I had taught for years and it was the 1st and only...

What have principals become?

They seem to be more like pals to the students. I have heard parents say proudly that they are best friends with their kids too.
It is sad, but a lot of parents and schools are teaching their kids...

1. Duct tape is used to fix almost every problem where I live.:) It'd be highly effective, but I am afraid with the ways schools are, you'd get fired.
2. This really works for me about 80% of the...

It is a big problem within our state.

It is not a big problem in my area of the state, but overall the state has major issues.

There are many reasons given. Money is seldom the issue. There are a bunch of areas where teachers just do...

I have given the head's up 2 times now.

If the new job requires your last employer as a reference, you do not want them to be shocked if they get the call. I was not given the cold shoulder either time I did it. Both times, I was moving...

When I was younger, I lived in an apt.

for about 5 yrs. If someone left their laundry in the washer, I usually just dried it, and even folded it for them. It was not a super common occurrence. I always figured I'd make someone's day.
I...

It does make it...

I have had similar experiences with a doctor telling me I had a virus and antibiotics would not help in the...
