I'm with you. I might eat one slice of pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving and drink one glass of egg nog at Christmas. Companies figure out that people will spend money on something and the next thing you...

The grab bag idea should be a blast. You'll have to factor in the personalities of your grandchildren to decide how the swapping thing might turn out. You might want to leave that at: "I don't mind...

At least 4 or 5 times a year, a group of my neighbors get together for what must be a mostly liquid barbecue which ends with post midnight fireworks. I have to live with them the rest of the year so...

5 year appliances may be good

Every time I have had to replace a major appliance, the new one has had so many new features and uses so much less energy that I'm glad to have made the swap. The nostalgic part of me fights it. but...

Regular men

Most educators aren't married to doctors and lawyers. Just look for a decent human being regardless of his income and you'll have a good life.

I have heard people call this a teeter totter in other parts of the country. Also, a slide to most people was a sliding board when I was growing up in eastern Pennsylvania.

The best time

My friend is in the car business. He told me once that the first 50,000 miles in a car's life are the sweetest, and recommends that people always get a new car if they have a choice.

No assets

If he doesn't have enough money for an attorney, he doesn't have enough money to pay if he loses a lawsuit. You can't get blood out of a stone.

Wind down gradually

When my father was diagnosed with diabetes, we were leery of artificial sweeteners so we mixed 1/2 store bought diet tea with 1/2 home brewed unsweetened tea and added a bit more lemon than usual....

I didn't know there was a fake certified check involved. I would have no idea how to tell a fake certified check from a real one.
