Agreed

Agreed with what was said about the questions. Try to refrain from a lot of questions about students with IEPs, even though I think itís a valid question! Yes, admin could misconstrue that as you...

Agreed

What makes it 10x worse is then being told it is your fault. So not only are you supposed to accept being assaulted and not mind it, you are also supposed to believe it is your fault. Pathetic.

Formulating an exit plan :(

Since summer started I’ve realized that I just don’t want to teach long term. Things I love about the job: students who make me smile, the creativity I can use as a SPED teacher, working with general...

Thank you

I work in SPED but not in the EBD setting. I donít have much advice but I wanted to genuinely extend a thank you to you for doing this line of work.

Anyhow, do you just have one aide? If so, that...

Teaching science or in meetings

I donít participate in this system because Iím a specialist. The teachers of those students are required to teach science to another grade level as well and do recess duty.

ďBest for the kidsĒ

Does it ever occur to a school district that if they do something they think is ďbest for the kidsĒ but completely burns the teachers out, that this might NOT be ďbest for kidsĒ after all? Example:...

If the paperwork is the only thing holding you back from getting the sped credential, throw that caution to the wind and DO IT. Your IEPs in a life skills class will likely be lengthier because those...

Sped paperwork

*insert eye roll here.* Iíve been commended for writing thorough IEPs and reports which are objective, have attainable goals, and thoughtful accommodations. The one thing I struggle with? Turning in...

Testing

Whatís the process for pushing kids through to SPED testing? This absolutely sounds like a case where the kid needs to be tested. See if you can chat about it with his teacher for next year. If/when...

Yep

Iím a sped teacher and I can relate. I taught self contained for a couple years and now I do a pull-out/push-in model. Those years in self contained really whooped my work ethic into shape....

This will not be the end of your career. Iíve never met a teacher who didnít refer to their nonrenewal as ďone of the best thingsĒ that ever happened to them.

Your admin sounds like an idiot. For...
