let them

There are times when I let them talk first. Just 3-4 minutes that they appreciate and then settle ready to work. Sometimes, I do it in the middle of a lesson.

I have books needed for the second group stored on shelves. Kids have been assigned to pass out and collect quickly as needed. Homeroom kids use the desk. Prevents many problems that way.

At my kid's school, every teacher has a clear plastic shoe holder like bag to put phones in. It's like a closet organizer thing. They put it in when they arrive in class.

not really my issue

I teach/discipline all day long. I encourage good behavior in all areas but I am not responsible for disciplining for an area that I am not responsible for at that time.

enjoy the day

Kids at my school are not allowed any candy/party at any time. Seems like they just want them to be little work horses.

never

Regular teachers with a union where I work should never leave students unattended. Anything could happen, even in just 2-3 minutes. You would lose your job. There is always a better solution.
