Label?

Last year, I used a large die cut of a bee with the child's name and number on it. I taped it down using packing tape. Not the prettiest, but it did the job. I think I am going to use self-sticking...

These are the things I put in my store that don't cost any (or little) money:

Invite a friend from another class to lunch: $50
Draw on the white board from 2pm to 2:10pm: $50
Bring a toy or game...

Reading and Writing Skills

I use this book at the beginning of the year to review story elements and plot development. I also use it to teach students how to organize their writing (B, M, M, E). Finally, they create their own...

We had a problem with them last year, so we banned them. This week, there is a blurb in my newsletter that says, "Please keep all Silly Bandz at home. They are a distraction in the classroom." Keep...

Um, well, if you have already read The Daily Five, I would start with the five choices from the book: Read to Self, Read to Someone, Work With Words, Listen to Reading, and Work on Writing. Maybe I...

3M Hooks

You can buy these at Target, Wal-Mart, or any home improvement store. I would not recommend getting the generic - get the 3M brand. They're awesome and they come off the walls perfectly, without...

3M Hooks

I second contact paper to reinforce the chart, and I can't recommend 3M hooks enough. Get the large hooks - each one holds 3 pounds, so if you use two, you'll be golden.

Love it!

I might have to steal your "Poetree" and your listening center tent idea. So cute! I bought a pop-up ladybug tent at Ikea months ago that my own kids don't use...may as well bring it to the classroom!

3M Hooks

I would use 3M hooks. If you use the large hooks, they hold three pounds each. If you use two hooks, you'll be fine. There's no way your chart and clothespins weigh any more than six pounds.

Reduce?

Why don't you try to reduce the percentage when you print a regular size cafe header? Once it's printed you can just trim off the excess.

Love it.

It's the perfect activity for the first day of school when the kids are trickling in. Easy enough to be done independently, but they can do a lot of coloring on it too. Thanks for sharing.

No chastising from me!

The insinuation that perhaps you don't love teaching enough to make sacrifices is ludicrous. We are professionals with families, hobbies, and interests other than teaching. While I love my job and...

Stick Stay Stretch

That's the new buzzword (buzzphrase?) in our district. Stick means focus on the topic (no extra or unrelated info), stay means keep on track with a beginning, middle, end (and transitional phrases),...

These are AWESOME!!! Thanks a bunch. The only mistake I saw was on the very last card (geometry) - symmetry is misspelled where you have the arrows pointing to the lines of symmetry. I'm looking...
