Your story is my story. I applied for a HS English position. Was taking the cert test. Great interview with P. My current P said she was glad I was applying as she had always thought I'd be a...

Yeeeaaahhhh....

I've been hearing for the past 5 years that I 'll be staying in the same grade level because it's "best for the kids". Never mind the fact that I hate going to school and had a huge mental health...

I am

desperate for my son to make it to the state golf tournament, mostly for him but also because I can go with him and it would give me two and a half days away from this circus.

Angelo's previous post about helicopter parents in college. The course of the river for these young people has already been laid. The pebbles we throw in now will only make a ripple.

This day, indeed.

Made me wish the headshrinker hadn't rescheduled my last appointment. The edge is getting a little too close for comfort. Come here, fuzzy blanket...

Yeeeaaahhhh....

Parent B kind of wins the day with sheer gall. And on so many levels. Fake emergency, pissy about the blocked number, expecting you to make guarantees on another teacher's policies...

Parent A? I...

Ahhh

Let me sing you the song of my people.
I dislike 3rd grade more than brussels sprouts.
And that's saying something.

It would be like...

"I would have an easier time believing you when you say you would do anything to help your child learn and be successful at school if you hadn't pulled him out for a week to go hunting and 2 weeks to...

Yes, today.

The paliiative care/hospice coordinator called to talk about my dad just as the kids were coming back in ftom recess for math and I had to answer. I put them all on computers with headphones doing...

Thanks

you all are such a safety net. I think the scariest thing right now is visioning this as a viable way of dealing with chaos. The only thing keeping me on the ledge right now is is the sheer...

Ahhhhh..

Good luck on finding more traditional schools with a policy of holding students accountable these days. It's like Diogenes looking for an honest man. Or looking for a flattering bathing suit. Few and...

Mmmm....

yeah. One of my grade level partners is constantly crowing about how well the kids in her room are getting the material, and their great scores, and how well the new curriculum works.

Um, you...

Have mercy.

Unless I KNOW there is an extenuating circumstance causing the behavior, I tell those kids to drop the drama bomb where it won't disrupt the whole class, or I will move them to another room till they...

I had that kid

up until 2 weeks ago. Parent insisted he be moved out of my room after I had the gall to report him to the office for holding another student down on the floor and punching her in the chest.

Gee, Angelo...

I tried to come up with some professional, thoughtful phrases for you to tell these parents, but for some reason, they kept ending up with "and the horse you rode in on...."

I have no clue why...

I had

A student who was pulled out of class for a rules infraction by admin once and missed the class party. The child did need the consequence, btw. I packed up a go-bag of what we ate at the party that...

What I have noticed

over my time in teaching, is that some of the parents who are most vocal about the benefits of charter school are the parents of some of the most disruptive kids in our school.

So when they claim...

If I hadn't already had my tubes tied, today would have prompted me to get them tied. Preferably around my neck.

Oh, GG...

You should come hang out in my forum. Every day is a seven-hour suck fest and there will no doubt be a support group for all my former third graders some day. Either that, or I am being way too hard...

Oh my cheese

2 and 3, especially 3, are the party lines in our district. Kids who can't learn anything else in school have shown an amazing savvy for the fact that "we don't get in trouble for anything,...
