It Depends Upon the Mode

For what purpose? Different types of writing calls for a different approach.

The RACE format (restate, answer, cite, explain) is a pretty good format for TDA...

Red Light/Green Light Ice Breaker.

Instead of saying "Green light," say "Anybody who's..." then either say "wearing.... " or "is a ___."

That way, kids can get to know each other and team build. They'll keep each other honest! ...

Silly, but...

The two items I'd need:

1. Tom Hanks, since he did a pretty good job in "Castaway!"

2. Journal supplies so I can record all my thoughts for my screenplay that gets produced once Tom gets us...

Using Pictures

On one side of an index card, they write the word. On the other side of the card, have students either draw or find in magazines pictures of the meaning of the word... NOT the definition!

If you want to start with the fill in the blank, how about projecting the handout on the board and have them copy it into a composition book? Then, all those handouts are in one place, hand written...

Practice Makes... Permanent!

I'd teach them how to use their time efficiently for timed writings and do them often. Then, after they've done about four or five, I'd have them pick the most promising one and have them develop it...

Not true

It is YOUR choice to tell when and if you disclose a condition. Once they are made aware of the situation, they MUST under the law accommodate.

Mentor Teacher/Department Head/Supervisor

Find a helpful seasoned teacher and just ask! Many times, they will be flattered. Also the department head/head teacher should guide you, as should your Content Area Supervisor should help.
