The original idea of PBIS was to treat behaviors with an RTI model.

Check the data; apply an intervention; adjust by repeating the steps.

What happened in implementation is the problem. The...

I feel ya-

I almost didn't do this one, but the paperwork wasn't as bad as some.

The whole "do grant applications" thing is getting annoying. If the school or district wants teachers to do this extra stuff,...

Need parents

These kind of laws will only be fixed if parents scream, loudly, about their children's safety.

Concern for teachers won't do it. (We signed up for this, after all.) Either some poor...

Additional agreement-

It's a new agreement that's being used by some in California. A group of districts joined together to create an additional privacy agreement based on a new law.

The ed tech company wouldn't sign...

grant writing

I take the time to develop an idea and write an application for "innovation."

The product is COPPA and FERPA compliant, and it is from a leader in ed tech.

I couldn't submit the grant...

different possibilities-

1. mismanaged a situation and was told resign or else
2. ran afoul of some board member
3. let go for someone's relative and left in embarrassment
4. burned out (just like teachers do sometimes)...

...and then there's Facebook tracking...

I have never used and will never use Facebook. I never trusted them, and I was not surprised when all the information about their unethical practices started coming out.

I always remember that...

physical development?

Could it be that she is beginning to go through puberty? The effects on the brain can sometimes be astounding.

I agree with OPs that a new genre may help. Her interests are probably changing....

General advice

1, The IABs are the same every time you give them.
2. They include all standards, so you find out what your students already know about what's coming at the end of the year.
3. Spread out the...

Students still need their own spaces.

My first foray into alternative work areas was standing tables that I made myself. None of my students self-selected the standing stations.

I have two corners with squishy floor tiles and big...

This sounds like an untenable situation for everyone. I'm sorry that it makes you feel like you are an outsider.

Is there any way you can get some kind of room dividers to separate your room area...

Sadly, Mean Girls

types are even in education. With those kind of people, you don't have to "do" anything.

flexible, but not every lesson

I group by unit or chapter. Students also need to learn to work through things with different personalities.

I use summative assessments and rank them high to low. Then I split in the middle and...

Sketchnotes where it's done for the Ss?

I checked out the site. To me, it looks like they take current research and go overboard with "supporting" students. These "notes" look more like what you said- coloring pages.

I'm teaching my...

Advocate for yourself with the doctor-

Pester that doctor to get something in writing that you can use to protect yourself and take to a lawyer.

We have managed healthcare here (yuck), and you must be pushy and whiny to get what you...

OPs made excellent points!

I, too, have seen an increase in anxiety and "sensitivity." The child is the one who is hurt in the end if the diagnosis is inaccurate, or no treatment is given.

Children don't persevere often. If...

Princ or Union?

That's an overwhelming amount of paperwork! These days, our school psychologists do nothing but testing. Throw in the legal timelines once a request has been made, and you get admin just pushing the...

Don't try to be everything/do eveything-

Of course, there's the old adage that you can't please everyone all of the time.

As with cutecat's numbers 2 and 4, you will be asked to add more and more to your plate. Education has the biggest...
