Our custodians always unlock the door for subs.
Whenever we go outside, we're with other classes (same grade level), so there's always a teacher with a working badge to let subs...

I just had them written on laminated index cards with address on one side and phone number on the other (usually just one parent's cell, due to lack of land lines these days)....

Yes, I've heard this is a new thing now!
When a child acts up, leave them in the room and take the rest of the class out. It's definitely unfair and sometimes, the child will destroy the room.
