Nope, nope, nope!

If they needed someone to teach online next yr, I'd do it happily.
We are getting ready for a surge of tourists coming in for the summer despite quarantines in place. ( They are not enforced.)
We...

I work in a district like you describe...

really hard for people to get their foot in.....and so many apply for 1 job. However this yr, has changed the way some people think about teaching.
They have hired to fill a few vacancies already, ...

That makes sense. ( Not a strong union)

Sorry! I worked in a right to work state for about 12 years, the district was good to us, but they needed teachers there badly at that time.
Oh, I remember Project Based Learning from over 20 years...

Someone who doesn't have a decent union....

1x, I chose to spend the summer preparing to teach a new subject area. Back in the days before computers. ( My choice, to be prepared) I put together everything I'd need for the 1st 9 weeks of...

Honestly?

I'd hopefully be praying to God for his peace. It sounds like your mind is running full speed on what next year brings. When I was younger, I experienced a lot of anxiety. The only way I keep my mind...

First, I am sorry you could not keep the

class intact. I have done both. Usually intact, but 1 yr, we had to take some kids out due to a new teacher who came 2 weeks into the year due to overcrowding.
The yr went fine. I think 1 person...

Good job!

You covered your butt by saying you were willing to help someone else! :)
You should be in good shape! ;)

That is odd to me...

Is he doing it to make it look like his own idea? If yes, I'd feel hurt too. Some people always want to be center stage.....Even if he is funny and nice, he sounds like he has a strong need to feel...

I have taught 30 yrs now....

and have had times that I wished I was doing something else. I love the joy kids bring and seeing light bulbs go on, and teaching, but have had a few yrs w/ a few truly psycho kids in a room w/...

I understand...

We have a couple who like to stir the pot at our school. It has been nice to not even have to deal w/ that for ages. ( Includes cattiness, backstabbing, and bickering)
I have been going back to get...

I'd approach it more like Emily

Don't worry, though! Our school started with the same approach of call everyone. We had to have daily contact in some form.
Some parents here have up to 7 kids. Most have 2-4.
With every teacher...

Our building is much like yours.

I will have to go back to pack up, but a couple of assistants, the P, a secretary, lunch people, and custodians are in the building at all times.
Only 1 of the above seems to be taking this...

I do not think online school is ideal...

Kids need to be protected too though.
I actually think districts should be offering "buy outs" of contracts for teachers who have worked for years and do not feel comfy going back due to risk...

Parents have most of the control/ The P

does what they say if he can. It does all depend on where you teach.
I have been in the same boat as Tiny, where 1 loud teacher would demand certain kids and the less vocal teachers got what was...

It has been refreshing/ interesting to read

your thoughts. I am unsure of the Englishism's place or governor.
I know people are saying things like they are under lockdown, but not really sure what they mean. Will the police pull you over if...

No! You are not crazy!

Is this PreK or K? I'd be pulling my hair out if someone told me to spend 4 weeks on 0-5.
I really do not know how sped or younger grades have that much patience. I am pretty patient, but 4 weeks...

After years of successful teaching,

a scripted program landed in our district. Not only did I not like it, the kids checked out when I read the script. There is a possibility that I lacked enthusiasm, so my voice might have gone...

This yr will go down in history....

as the yr everyone passed despite what they did or did not do.
I can see not giving F's to kids who are too young to get to work w/out parent support or do not have access to computers. At that age,...

We started out hardcore like that.

I was working 11-12 hrs a day for the 1st 2 wks. Pulling my hair out!
We try to keep Zoom meetings somewhat entertaining/ educational, so the kids will come. But, it is hard, I know.
The hardest...

OK I laughed at Subman's because I thought

the twist was going to be a bit different! :)
We would have been taken to the car if we acted up as kids too.
I only remember 1x and I was young.
I thought you ( Subman) was going to say: Things...

I feel like I have been a frog sitting in

water that has slowly been heated for many years. I think most schools can be stressful.
Some more than others. If you have a good P and good friends it is doable. If you lose either, it is harder....

Idle people here...

They are not trying to "make us " do something for them. However, they waste a ton of our time. I am sure they've been told to do it to justify their jobs.
Some send long rambling emails. I have...

Lakeside

Yeah, I think it was smart to never "go there" too. LOL

I had never thought so much about the outsourcing issue either. A lot of the good students are involved in lots of structured activities.

Do the best you can with what you have.

That is enough. I spent 11-12 hrs a day to get everything rolling along w/ a weekend. I am pretty mellow and maybe "snap" at people once every 7 years. I caught myself snapping: "I can't do 1 more...
