I would simply keep them busy with work, even though it is not for a final grade any longer but still has certain instructional value: Social Studies biography readers, Science Reading Library books,...

Ideas

I have several ideas for you:
1. Author study on Beverly Cleary (each student reads a different book)
2. Spelling Bee
3. Native American Day
4. Run-a-Thon
5. Art Day
6. Play
7. Field trip

If I were you, I would point out the objectives of your lesson and what you did to teach it. Stay consistent and positive with your point of view. Do not mention negative parts (even if there were...

California standards

I think they match Math books we used to have about 5 years ago. I see the difference with Envision and our CSTs.

We do hand motions for the steps: a wide hand motion across for divide, hands crossed in front of the chest for multiply, a short wrist motion for subtract, and a a long wave down with your right...

Tessellations

How about tessellations? Kids love playing with plastic shapes to introduce the concept. I take my shapes from the book "Math Art Projects" (if I am accurate about the title). Or you can teach them...

Father's Day project

For several years already I have made a pencil holder. Ask students to bring clean cans (from peas or corn- that size). For groups of 3-4 students in each you will need a roll of masking tape. In...
