He's certified.

I actually went through a teacher cert program with him, and he continued and got his SPED cert after we were done. So he is technically qualified.
Unfortunately, he has a huge ego, and thinks he...

Thrown under the bus.

I've been battling with our SPED teacher all year over a couple of my kiddos. They are high-needs behavior kids, and are challenging. However, with structure, routines, and consistency, they have...

Mine have a difficult time.

I have a lot of ELL and low readers, and they have a very difficult time with word problems.
I teach the CUBES strategy: Circle the numbers, underline the question, box keywords, Eliminate...

Which bit me in the butt recently when my writing grades for the quarter disappeared. But all in all it's a good system. I do keep a spreadsheet for my math grades, as I take a grade each day, but...

We have one.

We are pulling together as a staff, but aren't being given any additional staff or resources.

Part of it may be privacy issues. Kids might now, but they aren't releasing the names of the...

I wish.

Our district does what the parents want. We tried very, very hard to get this kid's exemption pulled LAST year for the same reason. I had one year when a student missed 90 days of school. That's...

I have to agree.

This is a serious FERPA violation. You need to contact that school immediately and tell them that they need to close your account.
If discovered you could be fired, or even have charges filed...

This disgusts me.

I have a child with true mental health issues. Serious enough that he was hospitalized twice before he was 16. Never was it an excuse to get out of anything at school.

When tragedy strikes.

Not to get into detail, we had a horrible tragedy in my city that basically annihilated an entire family except for a young child. This child happens to be in my school.
Although the staff knows,...

You need to seek help.

If you are having thoughts about hurting yourself, you need to get help. You aren't going to be effective in a job if your mental health is so fragile right now.
This has nothing to do with your...

Oh that rumors are true...

I just heard that one of my most problematic students is moving to a new school. He's on a zone exemption, and lives about 15 minutes away. Actually, he lives ACROSS THE STREET from another school....

IF there wasn't an alternative

I wouldn't have taken it away.
He almost always eats school lunch (free), so this was an anomaly. And I do feel it's my job to help students be as successful as possible. Filling up with sugar is...

I am familiar with this.

I have a son on the spectrum who also has ADHD and a mood disorder. He had food issues when he was younger.
I also have extensive experience with children on the spectrum, and other special...

District system.

I sent an email. We still have 3 weeks left in the quarter. Guess I'm just going to have to get a lot of writing grades.
What a pain.

Alaska

We get paid pretty well in general.
I always own up to my students in my sub plans. I give detailed information about any students that might be difficult, triggers, strategies, etc.
I am rarely...

This is a first.

He hasn't done this before. He normally just gets school lunch. I called grandma and she didn't know. I told him he could have his twinkies back at the end of the day.

2 apples, a box of twinkies, 2 cinnamon rolls

and some sort of neon yellow drink in a plastic water bottle. That's what one of my students brought for lunch. This 4th grader is already well on his wayt to diabetes before he's in high school....

Critical shortage.

We have a critical shortage district-wide.
Subs here get $150/day. Long-term (must have teaching cert) get $255/day.

Our problems: subs that take a job, then cancel at the last minute. As long...

Thank goodness for union contracts!

It's in our contract that we get compensated for covering a class. $30/hr if one teacher takes the whole class, $20/hr if two teachers split the class, and so on.
We also get $30/hr if we miss...

One of my grade-level partners called in this morning. We have no subs, so the class was split between myself and the third grade level teacher.
This is the 3rd or 4th time, but this time was...

In my teaching cert co-hort of 11, we all got hired immediately after...

Bodily functions.

I have a new student who just moved here from a remote native village. He's a good kid, but constantly burps and passes gas loudly in class, announcing it to the class and laughing.
This is pretty...
