Consolidating is generally bad, you lose the ability to defer and enter forbearance, the subsidies for when you're in school. I would never consolidate. DH and I owe about $45k combined.

yep it isn't possible to make a living, that is why after one year as a sped assistant I took the CBEST and started subbing. I make soooooo much more now.
