I thought I might send an update to my earlier post. In my area, there have been many openings at the nearby public schools. This area is experiencing a shortage of teachers. I ended up getting...

Thank you!

I appreciate the advice. It's nice to know that others have faced the same things I am facing. I especially appreciate the encouragement. If an opportunity presents itself, I will go for it!

Curious what you do for summer income

Today and tomorrow are my last two sub days for the year. This has been my first year subbing (after years at home raising kids). I have had some great sub experiences (3-week Kindergarten job) and...

Took the 3 weeks in K. Glad I did!

I just got done with a 3 week sub job in Kindergarten. I enjoyed the experience mainly because the regular teacher had a well-thought out schedule which required very little planning from me and the...

Thank you...

for your perspective.

"I think we need a break from each other." I like that. I will also consider how to better share the responsibility for classroom management in the future. It's something...

Involving the Administrator

...was the right choice. He spoke to the class earlier in the day before I had them. When I took over, I clearly communicated my expectations, rewards and punishments, then we jumped right in to our...

Thanks OneGreatSub

No, I know there will be no plan for tomorrow since the regular teacher is gone on a medical leave for a month or more and a long-term sub starts next Monday.

I thought a lot about it beforehand...

Handling Middle School!

Yesterday, I had an hour from hell. Details: last hour of the day, 6th grade music class, about 25 students in a small room with only chairs, no desks. Also, no lesson plan. I had a heads up that...

Might just try again

Sirsubalot, I wish I had read this post before I subbed in a MS classroom a month ago. I vowed then and there never to do it again. It was two days of agony for me as I watched kids in a "targeted...
