Have you ever done vocabulary

using "shades of meaning?"

When we talk of "tired" words and encourage them to be more descriptive, it helps to rate words or put them in sequence. You could do that and then point to the two...

It depends...Just my thoughts,

since you asked, ...on the grade level. PK-4/6th I think the homework is basically worthless. It all depends on the schedule and household of the parent. The students have so little control of...

It is all about the paperwork for

the Admin. The laws regarding restraint, seclusion, and isolation have changed so that there is paperwork required on a Federal level by Admin. These incidents also count towards a District's...

Look at the date on the article.

If it was written January of 2018, "the fall" she references would have been August/September of 2017. But it also says "This piece was originally published in Slate on March 26, 2014." That means...

One of the very few perks

of subbing! Enjoy your week.

My school is having issues with colds and flu about now. Don't be terribly surprised if you are requested the other two days. If you need them off, stick to your...

Absolutely NOT!

Failure is not trying at all. Moving on to a new school, district or even a different job outside of ed is just a move. Period. Failure is accepting all the crap and not trying to change!

You can...

My suggestion--FWIW--

Can you flip it around--if she gets Smiles, she gets recess. Don't go for 100% right away. Go for more smiles than frowns then move along the target number as she makes progress. OR another plan...

I think

behavior and social skills are both tough to teach--so much of it only seems to work if we do it as the misbehavior occurs.

However, that said, you could try some role-playing with the students in...

Well,

this is tricky. ALL schools do things differently.

First, it would never fly at any of my present or past schools. I've always been told serve from day one to the last day. We would try our...

Welcome

I was over 40 when I started my first year (also in SpEd.) I was assigned a mentor to officially answer my questions and I befriended another SpEd teacher who was a little more accessible than my...

I agree with the PP

That sounds Rough!

I think asking for a sub for at least 1-2 days is reasonable.

It should take much convincing with those numbers.

It makes me anxious just hearing your numbers--aaacckk! Good luck with all of...

I have been very lucky

as I have been in three districts in two states and ALL have had awesome Directors.

That said, the most important thing would be to document these conversations AND try to confirm in writing.

Since you are asking...

I can tell what I would do... I too hate change and I hate moving... separately and together.

BUT, what I would do in the situation would be to use part of the pay raise to arrange some kind of...

Wow! and I'm even a SpEd teacher...

With me, in my caseload, preferential seating is rarely about being "up front." You might want to double-check with the other SpEd teachers.

Most of the time, I want them on the ends of the row...

Start with some "Getting to know you" activities, any procedures you want in your room and then:

Even later in the school year, I often do an easy lesson just prior to introducing a new concept...

the last time this was on PT. It took a couple days but I got a code emailed that opened up the app for free.

I haven't used it in class much yet but it has helped me personally a couple times.

The person has to apply...
