I know not too long ago, some of us posted idea for using music in our classrooms. I for one...use music ALL the time! I listen to music differently now that I use it for teaching purposes...especially now that I have an iPod and use it in the classroom!
So anyway, my husband and I were listening to music while making dinner and I got a GRAND idea...different songs for different lessons...
Here are a few we came up with:
The group - ELO: Turn to Stone - Teaching geology!
???: I Feel the Earth Move - Earthquakes!
???: You Spin Me Round - Circles!
Carly Simon - You're So Vain - Biographies!
??? - American Pie - War!
2 Unlimited - Get Ready For This - Getting ready for the next activity!
??? - Let's Go - Get ready for next activity!
??? - Takin' Care of Business - Daily Jobs!
Steam - Hey, Hey Kiss Him Good-bye - Leaving for the day!
Pointer Sisters - I'm So Excited - Molecules OR a celebration!
Rozalla - Everybody's Free (to feel good) - Slavery! Emancipation Proclamation!
Pat Benatar - Shadows in the Night - Day and Night, Shadows, Moon!
P.S. I have the ??? cause I don't know the artist. I have compilations that I took the song names off of.
I use music in my classroom, but I am going to try using music to introduce new units. It is research based that memories are strongly linked to music. Think about it...when you hear a certain song on the radio...don't you think about an old boyfriend/girlfriend?
What else can you guys come up with? It's fun once you get started!
